i have not read everything that was written here in this thread, but I think I know what you mean.
but as long as it is just for your own use and you do not make any financial profit with it, it should be no issue, just like the thing with copying your CD for private purposes.
How does fucking with stereo setting makes music its self sound different than the original cd of a bands music ?. The music is going to be the same no matter bass,tremble,setting,etc.... If you play two of the same cds with different settings the music is the same but not when it's altered from the original by removing vocals or whatever.
Well if you turn the base all the way down you won't hear the base guitar, base drums and so forth, which isn't any different then taking out the vocals. So if taking out the vocals is unethical turning the base, trebble or any other setting off is just as unethical.

?
when you have single tracks of various instruments (played by the band members themselves) and mix them together according to your own preferences and wishes -- what's techno/industrial there?
Hey Barking Pumpkin, thanks for the link, that looks really awesome. I downloaded the winamp version of it, and I don't have any idea how to use it. I checked the downlaod faq on the site, and it just tells you where to put all the plugins and stuff, and I've done that, but it doesn't tell you how to use it, do you know if there is faq or walkthrough for this or a similar product anywhere?

If you don't use plugins for Winamp....you probably wouldn't know how. Open Winamp and go to Options>Preferences, and DSP/Effect under the "Plugins" category. From there just select "AnalogX Vocal Remover" and the bar should pop up. You just basically put it at 100%, although you could put it in between to move different percentages of vocals.....but refer to what I said earlier about how it doesn't work perfectly on most things.
Then it will pop up everytime you open winamp. To have it not...just go back to that menu and select "none" instead of the plugin.
