have any of you noticed that there's a leak of their new album "In The Absence Of Truth"? i just received it in the mailing list i get..and i'm still contemplating whether or not i should listen to it now. of course i'm buying it when it comes out oct. 30, i'm a huge fan..meh. it seems a little too early, but then again i did listen to agalloch's AATG literally months before it came out.. :erk:

discuss whatever you want about isis in here..i'm seeing them with tool on the 23rd.

Download it, buy it later when it comes out.

I did this with Vaders, "Impressions in Blood." Eagerly awaiting the release date (Sept 4th I think,) because I'm purchasing it immediately. Awesome album.

Personally I like the magic of a release date even if I don't rush to the record store for any given album on such a day. Nevertheless I think it's quite respectful to the band to honour the release date they either set themselves or that was set (imposed?) by the label. I hardly ever download anything and basically nothing illegal for sure. It's not like I don't *know* how to, I'm just not interested to find out.

Then again to most people in the scene I'm probably and old fuck therefore I hold old fuck principles. ;)

I love Isis. I've thought about downloading the leak, but somethings holding me back from doing it. Maybe it's because I wasn't a big fan of the song the song they just put out from the album.

haha :p

If it wasn't for downloading and leaks, I wouldn't have ever known about Woods of Ypres, so it can't be THAT bad.

I've only heard a handful of their songs. I'll try to see if I can find anything off of their new CD.

I know what you mean. I was pretty much referring to downloading as opposed to purchasing, thus supporting the bands. There's a difference between that and downloading songs in order to get to know a band and their music and then somewhere down the line go ahead and buy their stuff if you like it. That would be my old fuck principle. :)

i've always wondered this, even though im pretty sure i know the answer: what happens when you buy used cds? are you still supporting the band?

i don't see how it can be supporting the band since the cds were already purchased by someone else, then sold back to a store. the store makes the money off the cd so i don't see how any can go to the artist..correct me if i'm wrong! :p most of my collection is used, though..including my woods stuff :(

i think in a way you are supporting them maybe not directly with money but when you listen to it and then tell your freidns about it they they get interested and so you are still helping out the band. I buy 90% of my cds used just because HMV is a huge ripoff.

good point..you mean the hmv downtown (dundas), right?

yeah, those prices are absurd. they have a great metal selection BUT everything is over 20 dollars.

We have a Cd Plus around here, the metal prices are insane. I payed 30 pucks for the new Cryptopsy, and every other album averages 27 bucks. Thank God for the fleamarket.

Not the case with me. I found out about them from a review on the metal-observer and made a blind purchase, never listened to any of the songs before hand, but i knew i would like it strictly from the review.

I quite like isis, but since i still havn't got around to buying any of their older cds, i'm not really seeing me eagerly listening to the leaked one.

Actually, i really should get some isis stuff... is either of oceanic or panopticon significantly better than the other?

IMHO, panopticon is much better than oceanic..oceanic has some great songs but overall panopticon has a great atmosphere throughout the whole album. it's actually one of my all time favourite albums.

anyways i'm not too good at explaining things about certain music, so go read some reviews/listen to the song SO DID WE (on their myspace page)!

I really dig Isis, the new song on their myspace sounds great to me, I think I am going to hold off and just buy this cd.

But yeah, Red Sparowes, Windmills By The Ocean, The Gersch are a few of bands that memebers from Isis are in or were in, all which are great bands.
