Anathema should never change their name..because..hmm..well..they are Anathema:)!!! and who said that the name should point to the music genre they play?? Anathema will stay Anathema.

well, if you aim the jazz market, youd better not be called Anal Putrefaction, so yeah, the name should somehow point to the music genre a band play.

Perhaps if you tried it with jazz you'd get really famous for being a novelty and daring and that though

yeah, we had that discussion already, like we had about half of the last 20 threads, so don't worry about that mate ;)
no, it was a thread mentioning strangelight's name which got deleted instantly by some moderator called strangelight (or by the author..). that was strange. :) light. like

You want them to move to a new country and you want them to change their name?! I'm getting the impression you don't like the band very much.

No, quite the opposite. I said if they were a Scandinavian band they would probably get more attention cos thats the way things seem these days. And in my opinion theyre a million times better than the likes of In Flames and co. and still commercially viable with tracks like Release.
The name change thing is to see what people think about changing the band name, as I know its been mentioned before. The main reason Anathema cant break into a wider market is because of the metal tag connected with the name, so they are still lumbered with metal festivals with line-ups that arent really fitting. Yet, most of the fan base is from the metal scene and if they changed the name then the sales would drop drastically. What was the last metal Anathema album? The Silent Enigma or maybe Eternity? Quite a long time ago really.
Anyway, I think its a good talking point and I dont see how you've taken it in a negative way.
