Murphy's law basically means that if anything can go wrong it will, if you wait for it.
I think taking money from stupid people is taking advantage of them, and then we can get into the who karma aspect of doing that if you want

To me, Murphy's Law is when the exact opposite of what you want or need to happen, happens instead. Example:

I really want to listen to Opeth's Still Life. I haven't listened to for years. When I go to grab the cd, I can't find it. Murphy's Law.
