It's starting to get frigid, and everything is dying - BM circa 2007

man, i didnt think Epos was that good for an RC gang-bang. then again, Estrangement isnt all that great either, and you folks seem to love it. :erk:
I don't think there's a ton of love for Estrangement in this forum. I think most see it as a solid, albeit unspectacular disc, that certainly isn't on par with AA or BitW.

Very cool. My father once did an entire BBC radio documentary on The Great Silk Road. There is an abundance of songwriting inspiration here based on what the Silk Route presents in its history and culture, and after the genius of Epos, I have no doubt Darkestrah are up to the task.

Drawing inspiration from all of this will rule. :kickass:

The Silk Road, or Silk Route, is a series of trade routes through regions of the Asian continent mainly connecting Chang'an (today's Xi'an) in China, with Asia Minor and the Mediterranean. It extends over 8,000 km (5,000 miles) on land and sea. Trade on the Silk Road was a significant factor in the development of the great civilizations of China, Egypt, Mesopotamia, Persia, Indian subcontinent, and Rome, and helped to lay the foundations for the modern world.

but yeah, the snake looks way out of place. :tickled: wtf

having listened to it a decent amount now i definitely agree...production on estrangement sounds too thin, they benefit from a fuller sound like they had on BioW...this one isn't epic enough :erk:

I dont understand. It gets glowing reviews but all the "haters" only have the cleaner production to complain about, so it seems.

There are a few good moments (as with any release), but I find it to be quite average. I always thought they were over-rated; a band that made it big on hype. They're a good band and definitely do what they do well but, for me, they don't touch early Dissection who, for me, reached the pinnacle of that style. When I caught Watain in Cleveland a few months back, the live show was awesome, but the Dissection cover they did blew all of their own material away. Of course it is all about preferences, etc, and I know people who are far more "true" than I will ever claim to be who love these guys. As for the complaints regarding cleaner production, I don't mind that at all...I just don't find the material to be all that exciting. With all that being said, I DID just listen to it this past weekend because I really wanted to hear the first two tracks (which are quite good).

I just generally found the album to lack some of that subtlety that made their earlier releases so well worth exploring. It all seemed awfully contrived and predictable, which is not what I expected from these guys.
