It's starting to get frigid, and everything is dying - BM circa 2007

I just generally found the album to lack some of that subtlety that made their earlier releases so well worth exploring. It all seemed awfully contrived and predictable, which is not what I expected from these guys.

I don't remember where I heard this, but when it was due to be released there was talk of them dumbing it down intentionally - more fist in face instead of chills down spine, and that's not what Watain do best. Holding back on the REALLY good shit to get more listeners is never a good thing, even if the purpose thereof is to turn kiddies into devil-worshippers.

It's that time of year again? What are you guys listening to for Black Metal?

I'm listening to:
Darkspace III
Velnias - Sovereign Nocturnal
Chaos Moon - Languor into echoes, Beyond
Walknut - Graveforests and Their Shadows (Come Dreadfull Ygg!)

Heavily on my playlist at the moment

Celestia - Apparitia - Sumptuous Spectre
Varathron - His Majesty at the Swamp
Walknut - Graveforests and their Shadows
Haive - Mieli Maassa
Slave Whipping Blasphemy - A Kall to Whips (To receive more airtime as the election draws closer)

Hmm... of the black metal i'm listening to, the 2008 stuff I can think of is:

Misery's Omen - Hope Dies
Velnias - Sovereign Nocturnal
Arckanum - Antikosmos (Full length and EP of same name)
Behexen - My Soul For His Glory
Deathspell Omega - Fas- Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum

Have yet to listen to:

Nav' - The Wolf's Sun
Behexen / Satanic Warmaster Split (not out yet, sometime this month)
Tyrfing - Hels Vite (Same thing, though this is more viking/pagan than black)
Darkthrone - Frostland Tapes (I own this, wtf.)
Deathspell Omega - Manifestations 2000-2001 and 2002
Darkestrah - The Silk Road
Veil - Sombre
Urfaust - Drei Rituale Jenseits Des Kosmos (EP)

Some uber low budget/ ultra grandiose bm done by two white prophets from the deep south. I personally find it cathartic, but wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't have a strong opinion about the nigrescent plague which we unleashed in 1865.

Lifelover - Konkurs
Undivine - A Deceitful Calm
New Raventale
Agrypnie - Exit
Kampfar - Heimgang
Ofermod - Tiamtü

For some reason I have a morbid curiosity about this. Can you upload a track or two?

God damn this is awful. Check out that awesome "riff" that comes in forty seconds into the song "Slave Whipping Blasphemy"... Jesus, this isn't even the Mortician of black metal. This is like that band's third-best tribute band. (Check out the "riffing" in the second track too...) Arghoslent are fucking Led Zeppelin IV compared to this.

You don't listen to SWB for the musicianship, you listen to SWB for the negar lynching atmosphere.

"As I walk through the forest, I see running slaves, running from me, and my vicious dogssss!! Cut off their feet, kill them!" :kickass:

People listening to bad music just for its ideology has sold a lot of Christian rock records

Your ears are about as fucked up as Swizzle's after a midnight bike ride.

I laughed.

So I take it a "my pals beating atmosphere" means something that sounds like a cross between Ildjarn and Devil Driver

Now that we're on the topic of Ildjarn, may I take a moment to say that "Sort Vokter" Folkloric Necro Metal is the most overrated piece of garbage in the history of metal. Carnival music recorded under fifteen feet of snow.
