I've finally heard the new Slipknot (insert You Gonna Get Raped pic)

Why are you sick? There will always be some Slipknot bashing here :p

I heard the new Slipknot and I didn't like it, I think that they tried too much release an album that metal fans (not teenyboopers) would enjoy. I would rather buy some Coldplay than some Slipknot album.

Sick of all the Slipknot bashing? Quite frankly, I'm sick of all the angsty teen kiddies walking around in their Slipknot hoodies acting like home-boys and claiming to listen to extreme metal.

Bashing Slipknot is more than well deserved

I'll check this out because I know I'll end up having to download it for my mate. From the pulse of the maggots song, there were a few parts that was listenable but theres just too much crap that cancels out the good IMO.

Its not about having crediblity, its about defusing useless flame wars. Call me the ambassador of metal love. Besides, I don't think there's anything wrong with pointing out the fact that someone can be just a big as fan as you with extreme music and also enjoy other aspects, is there? I know this place is known for being pretty closeminded and gives in to mob mentality as much as hive-mind places like Blabbermouth, but I also know there are fans of true metal that also see the worth in a band like Slipknot. And I also fucking loved earlier Gorguts.

Just because some people, my friend, get obsessed with things like image and hype and let it affect their view of music, doesn't mean it happens to the rest of us.
To put it more precisely, my observation was: You copped some flack for liking Slipknot, then, out of nowhere, you (seemingly) boasted about listening to a more credible band "back in 93" and of course, namedrop a band member, just so everyone knows you know what you're talking about......

I have no idea what that has to do with "defusing useless flame wars".

I never said anything about Slipknot or your musical tastes, but thanks for that fascinating essay, nevertheless.

Well, obviously Slipknot bashing is expected and is always evident. Doesn't mean I can't be sick of it does it? I'm sick of angsty kids dressing up in Slipknot hoodies as well, and there's a shitload of them over here in Perth. Oh well, shit happens.

diversity doesn't equal accepting everything as worthy of even being bothered to take a look/listen of it.

Open minded people lack substance.

Who said anything about diversity? Furthermore, it's true that not everything is 'worthy' of having an audience, no argument there, but it's a rather solid fact that you can't hear what any particular piece of music sounds like until you actually listen to it. As the cliche goes, you can't always judge a book by its cover. The issues of what music is worthy of having an audience, and someone who is willing to actually listen to something before passing judgement, are entirely seperate. Not only do you make that confusion, you also mistake 'open mindedness' as something that enables people to just automatically like practically anything, which is also completely false.

Get a clue.

I know I'm gonna get some flac for this, but I still like the first slipknot cd.

Really, I'm not sure of what I think of them anymore. I think it's fair to say they have SOME talent, but it's just annoying to see lesser bands like that go platinum when better bands are struggling to make ends meat. That's where the bashing comes from, and it's well deserved IMO. Doesn't mean I can't still enjoy their music if it happens to suddenly get better though. I hated almost the entire second cd, and pulse of the maggots(only song I've heard off the new one) sounded very thin, and just generally irritated me for the few minutes it played. Is the rest of the cd like that or is it worth checking out?

The only other track I've heard is Duality, and while i thought Pulse of the Maggots is an okay song Duality is much better. I'd recommend checking that song out.... they seem to be doing a lot more interesting stuff on this album.

Really loving this record by the way, have given it a couple more spins tonight and am really impressed with what Rick Rubin got out of them. They definitley tool with things Slipknot have never touched, like acoustic guitars, but I think over the course of 14 tracks, it really fits in well. Its also more extreme in spots than Slipknot have ever been. Check out the track "Three Nil", they use a grindcore blastbeat that could have come straight off a Napalm or Carcass album.

Also I really agree with whoever said something about the stripped down thrash production helping them a lot. I think this is one of the single most important improvements they made. I like the 'clickier' sound on the bass drum this record, just adds a bit more diversity to their sound. I also am accepting Corey's vocals without a problem now, as I had a problem with them when I first heard the early released songs.

And this record doesn't sound like Stone Sour in the least bit by the way, but will inevitably be compared to that band, simply because its slower in parts and people love to throw labels around (i'm not innocent there).

Your comments made me interested to check it out, i'm downloading three copies from soulseek so i hope to get it incase one of the people sign off or something making me wait months or something, especially since i'm a slipknot fan nonetheless anyways and will buy the album when it comes out and i have the cash :)

EXACTLY! Now if only those mansonites at my school would see it the way I do. There are so many people there that hate me because I bash on their music. Not that I care, but it still bugs me that people would rather hate someone then to accept someone elses opinions.

I alos agry with those damned angsty kids. I used to be one of them, but it was before I figured out it was a trend. I now am a guy who makes fun of those bands, which is just as good. So many kids these days seem to think that looking scary and talking about how your dad didnt get you a xmas present is cool. I know a guy who basically refuses to listen to thrash. He'd rather be emoing it up with some Staind.

There's nothing wrong with diversity my friend. I grew up listening to nothing but death metal and grindcore, and still enjoy it and many other forms of music today, Cryptopsy or Coldplay, there's nothing wrong with being open minded. Good music is not exclusive to the extreme genre, it only happens to be my favorite genre.

Diversity? Yes but only within METAL! Dont support this primitive nu metal crap.

Real Metal has sooooooooooooo much to offer, you dont need those fuckin poser fucks crap!

ARGH!!!! :puke:

So it bugs you that some people dont accept others opinions and would rather hate them, but you do exactly the same thing yourself? :Smug:

You are contradicting yourself. You are making fun of the music they listen to, then you go to say that it bugs you that people would rather hate than to accept their opinions. It is their opinion to like the music, so you just hate on it.

Open minded isnt being foolish. It is liking a Backstreet Boys cd if your ears enjoyed it, or hating the new Death cd when eveyone else seems to think it is a masterpiece. It involves not going by the crowd, but going by your true self, listening to what you really want to listen to. I honostly HATE the Backstreet Boys, and love most of the Death cds, but its just a point i was trying to make. Dont hate something just because its cool among the metal fans to hate, or like something for the same reason. Its just as bad as the trendy bullshit with Slipknot. Open minded is liking whatever you like, not lacking substance.

Is this coming from a St. Anger fan?

Shit. I'd rather listen to st anger intil my ears bleed than listen to 1 shitknot song. I still find it funny that after 1 yr you guys still base all my opinions on that fact that I like st. anger. Sorry for not lying and saying the album is "shit" so I can fit in. After all that would make me cool. Expressing my own opinion is unjustified.

P.S Slipknot is as gay as "As I lay Dying"
