yeah ive been wanting to try some i just finished a 18yr glenfiddich but i hear the 18yr glenlivet has a bit more complexity and fuck i cant get good scotch anywhere.

We just got the 21. Pretty damn good. The 'Livits are always a little simpler and less bold than the 'Fiddichs, but the 21 has a nice round, warm, winey body to it... with a looooooong finish.

Anyway, sorry to aid in the derailment... I'm a scotch geek so all this J.D. talk is pretty much :Smug: to me. I will say that Woodford Reserve utterly destroys Jack... even the Gentleman's Jack.

this was my mates empties collection going back a year or so ago

ill take a picture of my alcoholic's corner tomorrow! doesnt quite match this of course, but it's pic worthy :)

edit: also i like glenlivet, but since i tried a bottle of isle of jura, these smooth, easily drinkable whiskeys just don't do it for me anymore.
id definitely recommend isle of jura to all in this thread!

Nice! I was looking around trying to find some 21yr the other day! its expensive stuff!!

the SB is one of my favorites below 80 quid for sure!
If I wanna spend less than let's say 50-80 and I wanna have a nice smokey one that's really high quality I'll go with Laphroaig, if I want a full and mellow/sweetish one I'll go with the single barrel.
it certainly has some JD trademarks, but it just tastes so high quality.

the GJ is nice, too, I agree, it's not a MAJOR step up, but it's nice if you want something really mild and "easy", I think the GJ is a good beginners whisky.

I'd encourage you to try the Single Barrel though, it's really nice, especially if you're a fan of Jack but want something "higher quality"

and an additional blasphemic note: I sometimes like to blend my Jack with dry (works only with Jack IMO. definitely not with a good scotch)...and the SB is also good for that (although I'm rarely blending it, cause I feel "it's not the right thing to do"...still, everyone should try it.

the Single barrel is a nice high quality whisky that many poeople will like, the Laphrioag is also VERY nice but not a "beginner's" whisky I'd say....

and then there are the million other good whiskys I enjoy, but that'd be something for another thread

JD was my best friend during years.
But always is better a girlfriend. Mine is called Santa Teresa.

Laphroaig and lagavulin are great scotches. I also quite enjoy oban for a more syrupy, sweet single malt. As for JD, I can't stand it, but my drummer has a love affair with it.
