Janne/Alexi jam @ ESP (full video)

Laiho can't improvise. And his playing is very noisy and inaccurate. It was pretty bad. He concentrate much more on creating some weird harmonics :(

I agree on improvising. EVERYONE of these licks in the last jam was from either Passage to the Reaper, Reap'n'Roll exercises or that 1999 documentary in finnish that's on youtube.

I thought he played pretty clean though, and I liked his sound :).

awesome! thanks for posting that video, i thought tie my rope was a bit sloppy and not so great but the alexi solo song, sioux city whatever was pretty awesome. the end jam was cool too but i could barely hear janne, the backing track was wayyy too loud.

Well, to be honest I prefer Laiho's improvisation over Janne's impro... Just like soloing. That's weird cause on Warmen he did fucking awesome solos, but for COB it looks like he doesn't really care and just hit random notes most of the time.
CoB and Warmen have a bit different styles, different feelings. I think that's the reason why Janne plays those kind of solos. And that's the reason why he is great. He can play many styles, and play them well. So it isn't weird, it's completely normal :)

Awesome video, thanks for uploading! Alexi's playing is actually really tight, which is really cool (and quite understandable, if he's been practicing for the recording sessions). That marshall tone has to be the best i've heard from him, anyone know exactly what head he uses?

It is a Kerry King, like someone posted. I think it has a great sound. We also used that a lot on the upcoming album.
And yes either of us can´t play/solo/improvise and we just concentrate on drinkin nowadays.
Greetings from Hollywwod.

I love the licks Alexi played in Tie My Rope that aren't in the original version. I hope there will be tabs for it in the near future.

SWEET!

Since we are talking about Alexi's improvising skills, I will state this - he isn't very good with coming up with new stuff on the fly. Half the time it is a minor arpeggio with tapping in E minor, same diminished shit, same pentatonic/Zakk Wylde repeating runs, and the AMAZING technique he has taken a liking to... natural harmonics with the tremolo! =O

I'm not bashing anyone, but for ALL of you to agree that Alexi is great at improvising is a joke. And please don't say to me "can you play all this, are you in a famous band, have endorsements, etc." It shows in his song writing too, there is a lack of creativity.

Holy fucking shit. There we are again. I think you guys have a problem with Alexi. Of course he's not Steve Vai or Satriani or Paul Gilbert and he's not a guitar god, I thought we already knew that, but he's far from beeing a bad player/improviser. Yeah, he could have gone further/more complicated/more challenging/more variated scales/different runs/etcetc, but did anything of what he played sound bad? No, it sounded tight as had been said, every single note was at it's place and it sounded good. For me that's not a bad player/improviser, for me that's a player/improviser that some people wishes he'd be more variated. A bad improviser is f.e. many of us here that can't hear a thing, start to play along and get the notes correct and right while improvising. A bad improviser could be even someone with skills like Rusty Cooley's but who when it came to jamming to a bt, made really weird scales and variated licks but all of them out of key and sounding like shit no matter how tight he played. You know, things are not black or white, there's grey and other tones. But when it comes to Alexi's playing or in fact with everything related to this band, it all seems to be just good or bad, with no intermediate state.

Oh, and if composing a new album avoiding repetition of the previous for 5 (I won't say 6 still, I haven't heard BD) times [thrash-power metal/melodic death, however you want to call it] while composing also 3 Sinergy albums[speed metal], two of the all time best Impaled Nazarene songs [sped up punk as someone wrote here], two Kyllahullut albums [punk-rock] and the instrumental. If all this is for you a lack of creativity, then tell me what he fuck creativity is.

That's the point dude! Sinergy fuckin' rules but it disappoints me that Bodom will not sound anything like them. Granted, I haven't heard Blooddrunk but I fuckin' own a copy of AYDY (and almost every cd they have put out), which is significant proof of a big change. Hopefully Janne continues Warmen or some shit

(I'm not responding to you anymore, as fun as it is)

Dude, you are all concentrating too much on the "bad" comments that is said and not enough on the "good" one.

Some said Alexi can't improvise, some said he can. But we all know that he is a great player.

I said that I don't really like the feeling of your solo in most song in COB, in comparasion to your stuff on Warmen. But then init0 said that:

And yeah I must admit that he is right. I didn't saw it like this at first but that's ok, we are just discussing so one can be wrong in what he say. And actually discussion is for that. If I would be pretentious and be fucking sure of what I say I wouldn't even take the time to discuss it.

whoa i didn't even think about the fact that that jam could be a song off blooddrunk. i sincerely doubt it is since they always have jam stuff like the passage to the reaper but if it is that'd be crazy.
edit: the more i think about it the more it makes sense, they turned tie my rope into a jam song so what if they did that with a song off blooddrunk? i guess we won't know till the album comes out but it sounds a bit too jammy to be a song.

+1

(I know this isn't the "ask" thread but do you plan to continue Warmen, Janne?)

Some said Alexi can't improvise, some said he can. But we all know that he is a great player.

Agreed. I'm not saying he CAN'T improvise, just that he isn't very creative. No point to have such a silly discussion. Alexi IS very good.

I hope not :ill: (but I seriously doubt it)

I'm seriously glad that there are still bands left who don't take every shit just to please the people.

And with "shit" I don't mean normal opinions. I mean the people who only exist to bash.

^Agreed!

(Towards me?)

Change is not bad, if you don't like it you still have SW, HB, FTR and HCD to hear, but there's also many people (Joe, myself, Inhe(who likes AYDY the best),etc...)that does like AYDY?, and also the fact they change is given because they write what they want, not what people wants them to write, and Alexi doesn't feel comfortable writting Something Wild-ish style, so he has evolved it. Now we can like it or not, but this won't make it bad or good.

I hope the last part will not be a song of the futur album of COB...

As Ben Jonson said, i think its a ''cover', of this ramstein song :p Sounds pretty similar like 99% XD

Nice jams and Sioux sound better when played by Alexi than Mr Crab at the live show for Guitar Heroes :p
