Jazz,ambient, etc..basically non-metal recommendations...post them!

DMB have become tiresome, imo. Dave's voice keeps getting weirder and weirder with every single I hear. Too much affect. I wish he'd just sing it straight.

BTW, I didn't misspell my comment above about too much affect, though I realize that a lot of folks might misunderstand me (like it matters anyway...), but I don't mean he has too much effects on his voice. He's overdoing that weird almost yodel-like thing he does. Or makes his voice sound "gruff", which just sounds silly. DMB is so 1996, anyway.

An interesting jazz album I picked up a few years ago (shit, it must be 10 now!) was Either/Orchestra - Across the Omniverse. Fun stuff. I especially like the tune, "Big Butt", which features some kick ass tuba.

I'd be interested to know what NFU thinks of Liquid Tension Experiment.

Gordian Knot is amazing stuff as well, by the way.

both bands are huge piles of wasted talent for self indulgent wankery fests.

.

Some abhorsen picks for other genres include

Last of the True Believers - Nanci Griffith (folk)
Stellar Nurseries - Seren Fford (space/electronic)
In Pas(s)ing - Mick Goodrick (jazz)
The Thing at the Nursery Room Window - Peter Lang (solo guitar)

must be a nursery theme around the lair lately. Nursery Cryme anyone?

those who like dark ambient etc. but have not given late 20th century classical music a listen might want to try out some of the following compositions for a start:
henryk gorecki (symphony no.3),
arvo part (litany, trisagion, fratres, tabula rasa),
krzysztof penderecki (violin conceto no.1, threnody to the victims of hiroshima, violin sonata no.2),
györgy ligeti (atmospheres, lux aeterna, string quartets nos.1-2)
alfred schnittke (sonata for violin and piano nos.1-2, kanon in memoriam igor stravinsky, string quartet nos.1 and 3).

if anyone's interested in particular recordings of these compositions, i could name my favorites.

Check out Zombi if you haven't. They have elements of prog, ambient, soundscape, electronic, and they're incredibly awesome, especially live (seeing those two guys pull everything off was very impressive).
agreed 100%

^Get Vespertine, then get Debut, both are awesome...Medulla is just bizarre for cacophony's sake, definetely her weakest album.
Does Mike Patton sing on Medulla at all? If not, in what way was he linked to Bjork during the making of the album?

I'd recommend Homogenic first. Her darkest and emotionally bravest album, IMO.
