jocks & metal

Well the diet is one thing I think I have down perfectly; carbs are incredibly important, and I find I can't feel truly satiated from a meal unless I have some sort of starch, BUT, it has to be a complex carb, e.g. baked potato (without a fuckload of butter/sour cream/deep-fat frying ;)), whole-wheat pasta/bread, brown rice, etc. Also, vegetables of course are great, as is fruit, but in moderation, all that fructose is still sugar. Otherwise, PROTEIN IS KING, and if you must eat pizza (I don't any more than once a month), pile it up with chicken so you get the protein!

And it's possible to eat healthy at fast food places as well; McDonald's has their classic grilled chicken on a honey-wheat roll, and if you get it without mayo and fries (and drink water, or if you must diet soda) it's incredibly healthy and delicious! Feeling hungrier? Get two, throw out one of the rolls, and pile both patties and lettuce/tomato on one roll! :D And as for snacks, yogurt, cottage cheese, protein bars (Powerbar Protein Pluses are my favorite) apples, string-cheese sticks, nuts, etc. are all where it's at!

if you're 5'11 and have been 155lbs for ~4 years and lift consistently 3x a week, you should have seen some gains, have you not? if not, you may want to try increasing your calories by 250cal a day or so and see how that does you for a couple of weeks. it sounds like you're eating at around your maintenance consistently, which is great.

as for everyone who is trying to lose weight or whatever, it's actually not that hard assuming you can eat CLEAN and KEEP TRACK OF YOUR CALORIC INTAKE EACH AND EVERYDAY (until you get to know your body better and just do it by feel or experience).

figure out what your maintenance calories are (how many kcals you have to eat per day to maintain your weight) and put yourself into a calorie deficit by either a) eating at 250-500cals BELOW your maintenance b)doing enough cardio to burn around the same amount or most preferably, a combination of both!

i believe strongly in cals in = cals out.

eat well, train hard!

nutrition and diet is well over 75% of the battle when it comes to an well-defined physique and overall health.

I never had to worry about what I ate when I was in full-training mode. I'm 6'3" and I only weighed 185. Shit, we would swim close to 20,000 meters a day.

When I quit competitive swimming I ballooned up to about 235. I started heavy weight training and got back down to 210lbs.

However, since my first child was born I'm back up to around 230 because I still eat like I'm training for the Olympics. I looooove carbs. Sugarless means tasteless. And any kind of salad I ever order has so much extra crap added to it that it defeats the purpose.

I have about 3 months to whip my ass back into shape for that Triathlon in September. Swimming and biking are no problem. I hate running though. :Puke:

lol this thread changed up a little bit. All the jocks I knew in high school/college were usually douchebags and did not listen to metal...they rocked out to crappy hip hop. Or maybe it was good and I just don't know because I think hip hop is horrible.

And on the topic of eating healthy...salads ftw!

I actually went through a bit of a hippie phase in college. Listened to a lot of Dead and Phish.

After I quit smoking weed, I realized that shit sucked and returned to metal.

Hahaha, well one thing I can be thankful of is that while I may have come to enjoy the devil's lettuce, I still hate hippie crap just as much as I used to

Dude, replace chicken with tuna or reindeer meat. Both meats are almost nothing but protein, and they taste a whole lot better than chicken :D

Sorry, but I'm not too fond of mercury poisoning, so I keep it to one can of tuna a week - and reindeer meat in suburban NY, give me a break  Chicken is my joint thank you very much!

Reindeer meat isn't that easy to come by. Unless you're Scandinavian like you and me, dude.

There's reindeers in Canada and northern US, too. Can't imagine them being any more rare than around here :P

Don't you have any food quality control officials? That's one of the most important ones in any government :P If a company puts out damaged/dangerous food, they are quickly put out of business in here.

reindeer meat?!?! thats fuckin awesome! i wish i could get some of that here in Cali, just so i can make all the fuckin hippies cry

however, i have had venison several times... def a distinct taste. not smoething i could have often or i'd get tired of it so fast

I dunno, we have the FDA, and they're pretty stringent, but still, I've heard there's just always mercury in tuna, and considering the effect heavy metals have on the brain (specifically sharpness and acuity), it's not worth the risk IMO!

I didn't play sports in high school. But I sure have played a lot of shows were the phrase "fucking jocks"! Was uttered. Some bitter crust punk doosh who was at least 56 years old flicked a cig at Splat88. Hilarious. Clean cut dudes in metal bands are not appreciated. Still better than having some angular nonsense Tegan & Sara haircut with pegged jeans on.

I played baseball and basketball as a little kid, then i played 1 year of tennis in highschool ( i'm good in practice, but suck in a real match). I think metal and sports go very well together.

I played football through high school. Didn't really do anything else as far as team sports, though.

BTW--reindeer is awesome! WAY better than the typical venison thing that you'd find around here. Closest I've had is probably Elk. Whitetail deer is really good if you combine it with pork in sausage. The more pork, the better.
