just trying the AXE FX....

I don't think it's fair to compare the Axe to the free plugs coming out today. Both have their intentions and both can sound damned good!

Tymon recorded the Exivious album with all Axe-Fx! Also it has some great features, connectivity options, ability to use live w/ poweramp without having to use a laptop (if you wanted to use VSTs live). Also, they take time to tweak from what I've heard.

I'd love to get one in the near future to have the endless capabilities, mainly for home use.

Also I've heard their effects are on par with the Eventide stuff.

I would really like to hear an Axe-FX into a 5150/ENGL poweramp > Rectocab/ENGL Pro!

If Lasse doesn't do it, I will soon. I'm selling my Mills cab to get a Recto cab, and I already have an Engl SE. I'm also probably selling my VHT 2/50/2 poweramp and replacing it with a 5150.

I am very confident that the Axe-FX can stand up well to a 5150 (or whatever amp) when run through a good poweramp and a recto cab and mic'd. We shall see though... as soon as I get the recto cab I'll be doing a lot of tests and I'll post clips.

I won't have the time to do that

Ah, that's too bad. I will definitely be testing it out as soon as I can though, and I'll post clips for you guys.

I'm hoping to do a lot of comparisons between Engl SE, 5150, and Axe-FX... and I will be trying the Axe-FX with the VHT poweramp through the Mesa cab before I sell it to get a 5150.

I think the Axe-FX sounds fantastic for cleans and has extremely good sounding effects, but I think it needs to be run through a poweramp and cab to really get the best out of it for high gain tones. I'm thinking that an AWESOME recording and live setup would be a 5150 + Axe-FX. The Axe-FX would add great cleans and great effects to the 5150, as well as a variety of different high gain tones (when using the 5150 as a poweramp). So, that's why I'm considering selling the VHT 2/50/2... the 5150 is cheaper and can be used by itself as a standalone amp too obviously...
