Krank Rev Jr

How well would this little guy work for live purposes????
I'm thinking about getting one for recording purposes at home but it would also be part of my live rig.
Or would it be better to just save up and get a Mesa Dual Recto????
haha
soooooo many options!!!!!
thanks

From all I've heard, the Rev Jr. has plenty of power for a live environment, and sounds fucking awesome! (you'll wanna get the Pro for its channel switching features, though). Also, they now offer a 50-watt version, which is $800 (still a bargain methinks!). Of course, my 2 ch. Dual Rectifier (which I got for $1100 used) is the greatest amp I've ever played/owned, so I have to recommend that :notworthy

DR whore...

Yeah man, when I first got my Standard, I hooked it up to my Mesa oversized 4x12, my friends were over at the time. I turned it on and had the master on 1, it was quiet, like normal. I turned it up to about 10 oclock and started some riffz...my friends were like "oh is that as loud as it gets?", insinuating that it was really loud, but that was all it had. It was seriously encompassing the entire room, couldn't even hear yourself think. I stopped riffing and go "it's not even halfway up yet" haha. They were like "WHOAZ."

It's really fuckin loud for it's size, I was surprised, I won't lie. Tube 20w > SS 20w...fo sho.

aye deffo 20w tube> ss fo so

but the problem with the 20w head is that it really naturally compresses when you use the active fx loop to bring the vol right up (as other wise its not too loud, but still loud enough for practice)

id like to get the 50w head for the headroom, slight natural powersection compression, but with that headroom for live practice.

i may be coming off all wrong and your thinking this is too quiet for practice with a full band, believe me it aint, but i just think it gets too compressed when pushed with the active fx loop.

as far as cranking it up for recording, without the fx loop engaged, or even engaged and only slightly pushed, this thing still has the tube drive and warmth, and can drive them v30s in your 4x12 for enough movement to get a great tone for both live and especially recording/studio situations.

Had mine (Rev Jr pro 20w) for roughly 3 weeks now. Rehearsed once with it (full band, two guitars) and played two gigs with it (a big club and a medium sized club). The highest I had the master at these gigs was halfway up (without the level boost!)...

For small clubs/venues it's loud enough to play without having the cab mic'ed up and for everything bigger you're usually having the guitars run over the PA anyway...
