Dream Theater - Six degrees of inner turbulence
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well this album is a double album with five songs on one cd and one song on the last cd. The last song is divided into 8 parts that create a solid song.

Dream Theater has always been one of the leading bands, within the genre of progressive metal. But this new album is in my opinion not as progressive, as it is technical metal. And that is not a bad thing.
The album starts where the last album left of. And the new sound is great; the technical elements are still progressive but also very powerful.

"The Glass Prison" starts with a very heavy sounding guitar. And the rhythm section is perfect and the keyboard is very cool too. The song is only 13:52 long. And divided up into 3 parts, Reflection Restoration Revelation. The different elements of this song sounds great. At first the sound is very heavy. And then the more technical elements come to play.

The guitar is played so beautifully, and so tight that it is a real pleasure to listen to it.
The Bass is also great, as always by this band, the music seem to fit so tightly together.
The vocals are masterly preformed by James Labrie. And in my opinion this is one of my favourite albums vocal wise.

The Drums are as brilliant as ever by this great band. The musicians in this band knows how to play, and they use all their potential to create, music that hits right in my progressive heart.
The keyboard is a very important instrument in this band, and it gets the amount of space that it needs to fit in just right.

The different tempos in this song kicks ass. And wow it sounds cool when played very LOUD.
Lyrics and music fits very well together, as always with Dream Theater. And the production of each song is perfect.

"Blind Faith" starts with an intro that sounds somewhere in the lines of the Danish rock band Kashmir's latest release "The Good Life". And often when I listen to this song, I have to sit back and just let the music and emotions pour out into my face.
This song is very melancholic as the rest of the album.

Style of this song is not as heavy as the opener; it's mid-tempo with some out bursts of aggressively elements. This makes the song very interesting (for me anyway) I like when the tempo goes up and down. And when you can't tell just what will happen around the next riff.

The instrumentation is great as well as on the first song and all the rest of the songs on this album.
I like this song very much because of all the breaks that are in this song. That is progressive but not as progressive as they have been, in my opinion.

The solo sound great, and the "battle" of the instruments give this song a cool musical experience.
The outro sounds like Kashmir too.

"Misunderstood" is one of my favourite songs on this album. It is hard to explain why I just like this song, with all the melancholia in the lyrics and in the music and in Labrie's voice.
This song is filled with great emotions, and great music.

I like that the keyboard sound like Kashmir. And the vocal of Labrie is very good on this track, and the music as well makes me think of about the lyrics and then reflect on my own life.
I like the chorus "If I seem superhuman I have been misunderstood" I know the felling.

The music is great played. The style of this song is hard to explain, it seems to be a ballad of some sorts by then again it is very hard in some parts. And the keyboard makes me confident that; these five guys are brilliant musicians as well as brilliant songwriters. Very technical and a very strange sound, on this album.

"The Great Debate" a great intro that sound like the news on TV and some other clips from different news items on the 9 o'clock news. And the music that runs along with all the voices sound cool and fits well into the song. It is very complex and confusing.

Then starts the "real" song. With a vocal in a box or something, not something you have heard by this band before. And then clean vocals again. This song just keeps on getting better, the guitar is heavy and hard it sound like something a straight metal band would play, and not a progressive metal band. That is one of the things that make this album one of my favourite Dream theatre albums. Listen to this song; you might agree that this album is a very experimental sound that fit the band like a glove.

The style of this song is an up-tempo song with hard riffs and beautiful keyboards and brilliant vocal work. And a rhythm section that plays like there was no tomorrow.

The beauty of this song lies in the breaks and the different instrumental parts that this song has to offer, and the musicians know how to play together.

"Disappear" is a very melancholic song with very sad lyrics. And the hopelessness of it all shines through in this song.

The music is very melodic and sad with a very melancholic feel to it, I can't help to sit back and enjoy this beautiful song. And I feel sort of sad when I listen to this song it touches some of my emotional parts inside of me. I don't know what but the sound of this song makes me very sad indeed.
The style of this song is a ballad or very straight sad/melancholic/depressive song. And the lyrics fits into the music like nothing else matters in the world but these two things. I like the ending of this song; it fits into the start of the next track. Which is on the next cd. And is the longest song on this album.

Before I go on I have to explain something about this next song; this song is 42:04 and divided up into 8 parts. And I will treat each part as and individual song of an album and then attempt to make an over all feeling of this song like it was a concept album, which it is hmmm…
"Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence"

"Overture" instrumental starts when the first cd ended. Great music (I don't like reviewing instrumental songs sorry!!!)

"About To Crash" starts where the overture ended, and picks up the pace. This song is like the older Dream Theater. With that well know musical twist that is a Dream Theater trademark.
This song/album is a concept about a boy and a girl that goes through all of lives many emotions. This song is the introduction to the girl. Some of the parts sounds like the previous album "Scenes From A memory" and I like that album very much too.
The piano/keyboard in this track helps to create a felling of greatness, I enjoy listening to this song. The music and style of this song is progressive/technical metal.

"War inside my head" is a fast and furious song, with a very hard and heavy guitar and one of my favourite parts/songs in/on this Song/album. The music is great and the feel is great fast and powerful.

"The Test that Stumped them all" a great heavy and furious song. With a great musical background lead by the vocals of Labrie. The confusion and complexity of the song is greatly played on the instruments. And the different voices that Labrie sings helps to underline the concept of the album/song.
Musically this is a great song in the same line as the songs on the album "Awake" (in my opinion anyway) you may not agree. But I think this is almost as progressive as that album, yet it has power metal drums.

"Goodnight Kiss" is a quiet song, a ballad and the feel of this song is great. After an explosive song/part as the previous. It is nice that you can relax with this song. And just sit back and feel the emotions of this song go out and touch you. If you are in to concept albums and you want a great one then buy this album now. You won't regret it I promise you.
The solo is great and the instrumental parts sound so great, that I could listen to them for a very long time, with out getting tired of them.

"Solitary Shell" has a keyboard I feel like singing along too. And the song/part is great as well; it continues the song/album very well. And the lyrics that tells about boy in this concept. The music is great played, as I mentioned I like the keyboard it sounds a bit like Ayreon. And the lyrics are great too, I like to sing along with the songs when I write, so you can imagine my neighbours are a bit pissed on my when I write reviews. The piano in the end sounds great.

"About To Crash (Reprise)" offers great music in the same line as "About To Crash". Now your are as confused as I am with two songs with the same title. Well it is Dream Theater and they do what they like and that is what is so great about this band.

"Loosing Time/Grand Finale" the last song/part of this album/song. It has some very cool music. And great lyrics this makes this part/song to a great Dream Theater classic in my eyes anyway.
And the musical theme is great, I like this part/song very much, the melancholic sound of this track gives me something I like.

This album/song is great and I would imagine that this would work great well, combined with some of the other songs of this great band.

The album in general deserves a high rating so I will give it a 9 out of ten because of the very cool music on this album. The guys in Dream Theater have made an impressive album with this 2 cd release. This is one of my favourites if not my favourite album by Dream Theater. Go out and go crazy in Dream Theater, and I promise you a new meaning of musical innovation.

Its too bad that 6DOIT is a pretty bland cd. I wish the songs sounded as good as you described them. The songs that are good on the cd, are really good, but there arent enough of them. Ahm but who cares? I still love Dream theater.

I told one of my friends that the Dream Theater's vocals remind me of WD's and she got all freaked out. She's a die-hard Smashing Pumpkins fan and she pretty much makes a point of hating Nevermore because a)I like them so much and b)Amos and I never tire of making fun of Billy Corgan's voice...so it's a trade-off,pretty much.

...Personally, i would have stabbed you in the eye with a rusty fork for that comment.

...What the hell...

*Stabs DND in the eye with a rusty fork for that comment*

Stupid comment. James "Nasal" Labrie is nothing like WD, and if you say it again, i'll retract the rusty fork from your eye and make you eat it... fork and all.

rebirth, you made me go back into my cds and take another listen to 6doit. when I first got it it was simply too much, two cds, epic length songs, nothing reached out and grabbed my juglar. but after a few beers last night I fired it up and it is excellent. not catchy as some of their songwriting has been in the past but an awesome display of instrumental firepower. and in the studio, if not the stage, LaBrie rules.

Labrie takes it up the ass, doo dah, doo dah, Labrie takes it up the ass, oh, doo dah daaaay.

6doit is great... i like it. The Test that stumped them all, War inside my head, The great debate, Glass Prison... awesome tracks...

Trapped,I said that mainly to see how she would react, you know,me comparing her holy sacred Dream Theater to evil, horrible Nevermore with their singer w/a weird voice and songs that all sound the same. Now,just be glad I didn't compare WD to Billy Corgan.I would never go that far.If I'd said that WD sounds like Corgan,I would've had to stab myself in the eye with a rusty fork.

REBIRTH>>>ha, hell yeah. As i told you in the mail, yours is almost finished as well. 6 or 8 more to get burnt, then the international post.
