Lopez

Derek Roddy just quit Hate Eternal.. Would be a perfect fit! The guy can do extreme metal, but also the fusion/jazz/bluesy things.. Best drummer ever imho!

But, however, i really hope Lopez will return.. His sound contributes so much to the total Opeth sound! Being a drummer, i focus on the drums a lot, and the subtilety (spelling?) with which Lopez plays is just amazing... Even the heavy-ass-double-bass parts have such a great feel to them.. I don't think Lopez is the best drummer ever (even though he is among the best), but i've never seen a drummer fit so well into a band like Lopez did in Opeth.. As i said, he determines a lot of the way Opeth sounds!

Get well Lopez... You are amazing!!

Now thats an idea! Derek can play anything! Runs rings around pretty much any drummers Opeth ever had.

I would say get Huxflux from PAATOS to join- he plays very similar to MLo and looks eerily like him! :zombie:

ugh, danny carey in opeth is the dumbest thing I've ever heard

haake >> carey, PERIOD

derek roddy is closer, but still his playing is just suffocated with blastbeats, which would blow in opeth

Roddy would get bored in Opeth.

I don't think he would.. I know he would definitely raise the bar of musicality in the band. He can play any style incredibly well. I saw him playing some jazz and he has that "thing" that awesome musicians have that you cant describe- its a very natural feel.

No one makes better use of the double parradiddle than Lopez. I mean, he makes a basic rudiment sound like so much fun! I'm not joking around. I hope he comes back to Opeth.

blah, you are just a bitter tool hater. danny carey is the man, as is haake...pretty similar styles. future breed machine has some of the coolest drumming i have ever heard. the grudge, ticks and leeches...mmmm...pretty fucking sweet.

i think that not allowing derek roddy to do blastbeats would be very wrong. that man makes a blastbeat sound sweet.

its all silly to argue about. i am 100 percent sure that none of those guys will ever be in opeth.

I was thinkin about this the other day and i was thinkin how portnoy is friends and a fan of Opeths and has a possible collaboration with mike. Even though i hate dream theater, portnoy can none the less drum. I dont think it would be impossible but i doubt it. speculation is a wonderful thing and a bad thing.

Axe is a good metal drummer.

Opeth is a metal band but arnt just simply metal, so they need someone with something more then being a good metal drummer.

Martin has something about his playing. He accents some things and hits certain things in different spots to get different sounds for different situations in the music. He expresses himself alot better then just hitting a drum. He is one of the most unique drummers ive heard and Opeth i doubt would ever get a drummer best suited and a better artist then him.

I think if Martin ends up leaving the band i will loose a little bit of my love for Opeths music. I think it would be that case if anyone left the band it would be the same.

And i hope all the support on the forum helps the dude get his health back.

Both Martins are amazing drummers, it's an amazing bit of good fortune that Axe was available to sit in when Lopez became unwell...

I had this idea sometime ago that if Martin Lopez returned, Opeth should do a tour with both the Martins playing... :D

Quad kicks and splashes would fucking rule all...

Discuss Opethians, hehe.

Comments Mike ? :) "I doubt it," :( here's hoping! :kickass:

that would be interesting. i doubt that it will happen.

I read in a local magazine here in Melbourne, where they had an interview with Opeth, that the guys really don't know what's going on with Lopez. It seems to have been a culmination of panic attacks, the blood disorder and Lopez getting so skinny that he just couldn't play anymore.

I think they're in limbo just as much as we are.
