Lord of the mutha fuckin Rings!

What a geek i must sound like now,but have anyone thought of what kind of creature Tom might be? He must be some kind of Maiar since the ring doesn´t have any effect on him,and he also says he´s older than the ents, who are older than the elves

He's supposed to be a physical manifestation of the world itself.

That might be it Rabid, he could also be one of the Valar come to middle earth or something.

Tolkien purposely left him unranked and out of place in the classes of middle earth beings because he wanted to reflect the purpose of fey in the medival concept of the universe. (Ie. they have no specific ranking of angels or demons or men)

Quick semi-side note, since I haven't seen it mentioned (I don't think?):

Did you all see that they are moving forward with filming 2 films based on The Hobbit and the (60 or 80?) year gap between that and the first LotR story?

Here's an article about it: http://www.stuff.co.nz/4329745a10.html

Only downfall (potentially) for me is Jackson is only set to produce and not direct. He has a lot of approval ability etc. but man...would love to see him as director.

I came across that a few days ago. I really don't care much for hobbits, but I'll give The Hobbit a chance anyway. Sucks that Jackson won't direct.

Even though it was shown briefly in the first movie, they should really make a movie dedicated to the events preceding to, as well as showing what happened during, the Battle of Dagorlad (the last alliance of elves and men, where Sauron was defeated).

If it turns out to be as good as the Hobbit cartoon movie it will be a very worthwhile movie indeed. I hope they make Smaug look somewhat like the cartoon one. And it would be cool if they had some of the same music.

I´m playing with the thought that Tom is Illuvatar himself

no, tolkien made it perfectly clear in one of the letters that eru did not have a physical form

'There is no embodiment of the One, of God, who indeed remains remote, outside the World, and only directly accessible to the Valar or Rulers.'
The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien No 181, dated 1956
