lurch's deal thread ...

so tomorrow I'm probably going to get this stuff.

I'm wanting to spend around $350 CDN, maximum $400.

Basically, an entry level reciever and entry level bookshelf speakers. I don't have the money to get anything better, but as soon as I get this, components can be upgraded later if I need to... and it's going to sure as hell kick the shit out of these computer speakers I've been using for the last five years... at this point anything will be an improvement.

put most of the money towards the speakers ... and bring some demo material to the store to try stuff out

yeah, I'm probably not going to be able to get very good speakers though.

you were a salesman in this area before, do you have any recommendations on stuff to look for, or stuff to avoid on entry level speakers?

what store are you going to? do they have a website? what brands do they carry?

for speakers ... for the price ... and the fact that you listen to rock ... JBL is your best bet.

and take this Yamaha Receiver ... it's 5.1 but regular stereo recievrs are more expensive ... and those Insignia ones ... stay away like the plague

this setup will give you great sound and serve you well for quite a few years ... pretty high end system for the price too.

You went onto the US Best Buy site for the receiver, but I will certainly check out these JBL speakers.

Chances are I probably will get the Sony receiver, but I'm not going anywhere near Sony speakers.

you know what? fuck this. This is adding up to way much more than I want to spend.

For the price I'm beginning to estimate I could get a set of those Logitech THX certified computer speakers and a new, superior sound card for far less than what a receiver setup would cost me.

hahaha, i have sony speakers and sony headphones and a sony tv
whats wrong with them eh?

i dont find anything wrong with the speakers. they were pretty much all i could afford. some of them speakers is gaw-durn expensive
