Males and Females

Washing dishes is the shit. It makes me nihilistic sometimes, but at least it's not that boring. It can be pretty stimulating when things get busy. I get a giant pile of dishes, it gets finished fast, and a shitload of time has gone by.

California isn't the place to be job-hunting.

Preaching to the choir here.

My brother has no problem finding jobs there. He keeps changing his job a lot.

He keeps changing jobs? What does he do exactly?

I would like to hunt for jobs out of state (preferably Washington or Oregon, or hell even northern California), but I don't know anyone outside of my area here. Plus without any money I can't exactly just pick up and go.

He had some job in some Israeli falafel place (he's done lots of jobs in the food business), he worked for a hotel doing valet parking, and now he's a cook at a restaurant. All those were jobs he had in LA, though. He's had a bunch of jobs back here in Maryland, too.

He's got a fuckload of work experience. He's probably had at least double the jobs I have (6).

Made an account on gk2gk.com and on the very first page of my search is the very same awesome chick I chatted with (in fact, the only one with even limited success) some weeks ago on okcupid, who didn't show much interest in me unfortunately. It encouraged me to try again with her. She's a petite lil thing with glasses, nice n geeky, quite the grammar nazi, and has a good sense of humor from what I can tell and lives pretty close. Fits all of my rather picky criteria.

Wish me luck =P

I actually enjoy doing dishes, I find it kinda therapeutic, especially when I listen to music. It's almost like I have a higher appreciation for the music and I think it works on a more subconscious level too.

How much would you need? How much cash do you normally have available? I'm thinking you could rent a place with 3-4 roommates for a month or two and pay maybe $300/mo for that. Gas money's the only other big expense i can think of, not sure how much that would be though.

Is it possible that you could ask a family member for like a $500 loan? If you're already someone's dependent you might be able to convince them that paying you to live somewhere else for a couple months is a good investment.

You guys in the States/Europe are lucky to be able to work in these kind of jobs, and actually be able to feed yourselves and find a shelter to sleep under. Over here, post-graduates get paid shit like 600$ a month in domains like banking, accounting, etc. The who work as dishwashers, valet parking, etc. live below the poverty threshold, work 17 hours a day, or deal drugs in order to make a living.

I have absolutely no money, 21k in loans (which although are currently deferred until August, are still accruing interest), and a broken car. I need a lot of cash, and my family is having a hard time just like I am. Borrowing isn't an option. I've been flipping books I own to try and get money, but I'm getting gouged by buyers. If I can find someone to buy a few certain items from me, I'll be able to fix the car and expand my job search to a 50 or 100 mile radius instead of the immediate area like I've had to for the past three months. My car as it is gets around 20mpg, and maybe after it gets fixed will have another 30k miles/year left of life in it (2001 chevy malibu, 173k miles on it).

Everyone I know cannot support themselves alone on those types of jobs.... like at all. The few who can have two or three of those jobs and absolutely hate their lives.

AHAHAHAHAHA

I've finally started a real dialogue with chinagirl. It looks like this is actually headed for a philosophical debate between us over Eastern vs. Western concepts of love and friendship

She seriously, legitimately believes that she behaves in a loving way that transcends gender barriers when she hangs out in our circle of mostly guy friends. I can't believe I'm about to begin an assault on a 27 year old girl's naive hippie beliefs...

^

Despite some making out, this is exactly how it worked out with my Chinagirl. I also learnt that she has never had a boyfriend  I also know some slutty girls from the same city. I'm genuinely confused

I think the same kinda thing really, just as long as the dishes aren't frustrating or I'm not doing them with people that fuck it up.

Dishes are my favorite thing to do at my job. Doing it's not so complicated that it's easy to mess up and get frustrated, but it's not as simple as say, standing by a door waiting for someone to come in so that I can ask them "may I help you?" So basically, I don't get overwhelmed, but I don't get bored.

Sounds like you need to seek greener pastures. This broad is a dummy.

It can be harder than one thinks to let go of a cultural perspective, even while being immersed in another culture. This I've observed seeing fobs from South Korea coming to a predominantly white high school and leaving at the end of the year with pretty much the same social mannerisms. In high school, when the pressure is at a high to be like others, they stuck out because it's what they were used to.

Richard, you have no idea how intelligent this girl is. She's a PhD student in bioinformatics with a full time research position ffs.

It's got to be some kind of culture / beliefs issue. I'm really curious about it, and I want to keep pressing the discussion on her just to see if I can get her to talk openly about it, and maybe even learn something from her.

I've been in a dry spell for a bit lately. It seems really easy when you're getting some action, but once it sours it feels like the aura of past rejections just permeates all future interactions. It's hard to get out of that funk. Also getting to the point where too many of the faces on OkC are people I wrote to either totally unsuccessfully, or fizzled out with before meeting.

Having had significant droughts before, I'm worried about too much time passing and waking up and being 28 or so, and not having all that much time to meet someone before I become unviable.

Anyone else finding that the weeks are blowing by way faster than they used to? Rites of Darkness is like the only thing I remember happening since October or so.

Super cute girl added me today on FB, after I ignored the fuck out of her for 2 days. Operation cockblock failed.

You would be surprised how many morons are capable of completing doctorates.

Yeah but getting that doctorate for free because of the value of your research is a different story.

I wasn't trying to say that's what makes her intelligent, it's just supporting evidence. She's a good learner, very clever/witty, appreciates a lot of the finer things in life, and she's undergone a lot of personal growth since she came to America. I'm pretty sure she's able and willing to have a mature discussion of human psychology with me.

Nothing female related, but I've been feeling the exact same way. Really fucking discouraging, especially since I'm at the age/point in life where I should be experiencing new things and learning more at an exponential rate.

Immigrants and exchange students can be "stunted" when it comes to dating since it works so differently over there. Of course you find the same with red white and blue-blooded Americans who are just plumb naive too.

What can I do for PP for Valentine's Day? He is cooking me a nice dinner on the 14th and taking me out on the 15th to an expensive restaurant.
