Meshuggah - I

Chaosphere is my favourite too...it doesn't get old. it took a damn long time to get into though. the ending of Concatenation is one of the most aggressive things I've ever heard

Yeah, I honestly hated it for more than a year after I heard it, then one day all of a sudden I loved it and haven't looked back since :P

YES!

So many people despise them around here, but they've remained great even with the line up changes and huge differences in sound from album to album.

Perhaps the nicest guys I've ever met too. Peter actually thanked me and my best friend for coming to see them in New Hampshire last year - perhaps the best show I've ever been to.

They've got a US tour sometime this year and possibly another CD! Greatly looking forward to it!

another HUGE extol fan here  thats great news Indrid, i hope to see them at Cornerstone this summer!

On Meshuggah (the other of my top 3 fav bands):

I thought I was pretty good, definitely not as good as good as Catch 33, like most people have said. That record does sound more complete. My fav from them so far is DEI, i liked the progressive/jazzy parts that were missing from Chaosphere (although that one is better in the aggressiveness department). Also I love DEI's tight production too.

:notworthy FUTURE BREED MACHINE!!!

Catch 33 is definitely their best work. Sol Niger Within is sweet as well. DEI is dull with the exception of the jazzy solos, and Chaosphere is way too monotonous. I is the hardest to get into it - it's weirdly hypnotic. I actually like Nothing, despite the fact that it's not as complex - it has a good groove, and is MUCH more dynamic than Chaosphere (and I love the 8-string sound, heh). But Catch 33 is an incredible journey.

The drummer in Meshuggah, Tomas Haake, is pretty wicked. He does things that I didn't think was even possible to do behind the kit! hehe I would say he is very underrated. Everyone talks about Hellhammer, Hoglan and the like when they talk about outstanding drummers.

Is it true that they used a drum machine on Catch 33?
Thats what I've heard..

It's programmed, but who cares. it was programmed using the samples from Tomas's own kit. Plus, it's not like he can't play all of it, being that it's the most simplitic drum album Meshuggah has yet put out. He plays it live.

Good points. You have made me feel a bit better about it.

Meshuggiah is a decent band, and i do like them alot. I just wish sometimes that they would change it up... just a little bit.

I get pretty tired of the start stop riffage for 45 min.

but, dont get me wrong. I like them alot.

Yeah, they only used the samples cause they didn't have the time to record the drums. He sure as hell could have done it if they'd had the time.
