meshuggah.....

I don't generally listen to Meshuggah much, but seeing them live is an amazing mind-fuck experience.

I like their "I" EP the most.

Coprofago = Meshuggah, only better...and with Allan Holdsworth-styled jazz fusion thrown in for good measure....

and when i say they're just like Meshuggah, i literally mean it...their singer sounds exactly like Jens from Meshuggah...

check out their latest release "Unorthodox Creative Criteria"

FTW

Destroy Erase Improve is a good metal album you can rock out to, but I definitely like Chaosphere the most - mainly for the fact I can just totally zone out to it. They achieved a really dense sound on that album, and that mixed in with the repetition totally works for me. I find myself nodding along to it really slowly despite the quicker pace of the songs.

Anyway, I haven't particularly enjoyed anything they've done since. And maybe it's me, but some of the earlier stuff sounds a hell of a lot like Metallica.

I'm completely ok with the number of people who think Meshuggah is trash. For me, i think they are one of the most interesting bands in metal, and Catch 33 is brilliant. Catch 33 to me is hardly even a metal album. I mean, it SOUNDS like metal, but there's not much about the composition of it that resembles metal at all. Closer to post industrial or surrealist drone works.

Catch 33 is so dense, I have to get into a particular mindset when listening to it. I had never really thought that I'd have an easier time listening to their older material, but it's so much easier for the brain to absorb than Catch 33.

I'm not fond of their move towards using Line 6 guitar gear and drum samples to do Nothing, I and Catch 33 and as such enjoy Destroy Erase Improve much, much more from a production point of view (Danne did a great job on that one).

Anyway, all that said, Catch 33 is an amazing album, as are most of Meshuggah's releases. They consistently remain amongst my favourite artists.

Catch 33 really hasn't clicked with me yet, its so repetitive and I only find the quiet parts interesting.

'I' on the other hand is probably my favourite 20+ minute song ever. Fantastic EP, everyone should own a copy

Have you heard the re-release of "Nothing"? Sounds much better imo. I don't mind the production on "I" at all though.

I have a few Meshuggah albums, and they are great... I don't find them to be boring or repetitive, I like the machine like sound of the insanely heavy riffs, which are played in repitition with slight variations, and the ambient stuff. They also have some groovey riffs with heavy vocals on top which is great to headbang to  'Catch 33' is great, very well rounded aswell, with heavy parts, some digital vocal experimentation, ambient parts, and some mind altering states, even the quite vocals on "Shed" are pretty good... actually I liked this record since I first heard it really, but it takes time to really digest :)

what's different about that re-release? I wonder if I should get it...

First, it's rerecorded and sounds way better. Second, it has a bonus DVD that has a bunch of videos on it (including the infamous air-playing in the train NMCC video) and three live tracks which were really well recorded (though the cameraman almost never shows fredrik during the solos) and are completely awesome. It's definitely worth getting imo.

Very close to what i think, but i personally don't find Meshuggah hard to digest...they destroy. period.
