Back in Illinois:

Metallica - & Justice for All,
WASP, &
Alice Cooper were the beginners.

Then more Metallica - Master of Puppets,
Skinny Puppy,
Anthrax, &
Marilyn Manson.

Then I moved to Arizona & met some peeps, & that escalated into:

Carcass,
Deicide - s/t, & Legion,
Amorphis - Elegy, &
others that I cant think of right now.

Then when I spawned off on my own, it was
Nile - Amongst the Catacombs of the Nephren-Ka,
Vader - Black to the Blind.

But now for the cd's that will always dominate...No Matter WHAT:

Acid Bath - When the Kite String Pops,
Cradle of Filth - Vempire,
Dimmu Borgir - Enthrone Darkness Triumphant,
Killswitch Engage - Alive or Just Breathing,
Machine Head - Burn My Eyes,
Fear Factory - Demanufacture,

cannibal corpse - Tomb Of The Mutilated

cradle of filth - dusk and her embrace and midian

suffocation - pierced from within

morbid angel - gateways to annihilation

vehemence - thoughts from which i hide

pantera - far beyond driven

1. Pantera - The Great Southern Trendkill was the first album that got me into metal.

2. Metallica - ...And Justice For All is by far the greatest album ever

3. Vehemence - God Was Created is like no other cd I have ever heard. Some of the most brutal stuff I've heard, but extremely melocic.

and also there is...

Pantera:

Cowboys From Hell
Vulgar Display of Power
Far beyond Driven

Metallica: Master of Puppets

That's the elite of what inspires me to play..... As far as what has just kicked total ass over the last 12 years or so I've been into metal, it would take all day to make the list, and I'd still forget a hundred bands.

It all started for me when as a child I was watching professional wrestling on television and The Road Warriors were walking to the ring. As usual they had the fireworks and lights going, all set to the most inspiring metallic dirge I had ever witnessed (this is the summer after the third grade mind you). My father quickly explained to me that the music was called Iron Man, and the bands name...BLACK FUCKING SABBATH!!!
Quickly rushing to the nearest K-mart (which is the only place I knew of that sold music) I purchased every Sabbath tape they had (Master of Reality, and a cheap ass Greatest hits comp) and proceeded to play the tapes until they had worn through and broken.
Upon further investigation of a Sabbath record my father owned, I discovered the singers name was OZZY FUCKING OSBOURNE!!! Now a few years had passed and I now new of the mall, and a little goldmine called Sam Goody. As soon as I knew I owned everything Ozzy had ever recorded to tape, I proceeded to listen to only those tapes for years to come (I'm talking all the way to high school, I'm one hell of a fan, huh?), and still do. In high school I realized there were others like me who had to have a daily dose of metal. This progression of friends introduced to me (in this exact order)
Metallica-Ride the lightning
Metallica-Kill em all
Slayer-Reign in Blood
Slayer-Seasons in the Abyss
Deicide-Deicide
Anthrax-Among the living
Megadeth-Peace Sells, But Whose Buying?
Obituary-The End Complete
SOD-Speak English or Die
Entombed-Clandestine
Morbid Angel-Blessed are the Sick
Morbid Angel-Covenant
Cannibal Corpse-Butchered at Birth
Cannibal Corpse-Tomb of the mutilated
Megadeth-Rust in Peace
Death-Human
Deicide-Legion
And the list goes on and on...fast forward to age 25, married with two kids and a full time job and still obsessing over metal....
Most recent passions are
Manowar-anything I can get my grubby mitts on
Gwar-I already own em all, I just can't get enough
King Diamond-I was never a fan until a couple of years ago(unexplainable phenomenon)
Anathema-They could release and album of harmonized farts and I bet it would sound fucking brilliant.
In Flames-just cus
Iron Maiden-I used to have arguments with a good friend of mine over who was better: Ozzy or Bruce Dickinson, I always went with Ozzy (for obvious reasons) but in retrospect I think I'd like to change my answer.Fucking sonic Magic.....
Mercyful Fate-one reason only...THE KING
awwwww fuck it you get the point.
Metal is the most stable thing I've ever had in my life. Even when the media tells you it's no longer "cool" it will still be there. And I'll be right there with it jamming my headphones on 9 (they distort at 10).
HAIL TO ALL WHO HONESTLY LOVE METAL FOR ALL THE RIGHT REASONS, I'LL SEE YOU ALL AT THE PEARLY GATES OF VALHALLA!!!!!!!!!  :headbang: :headbang: :zombie:

Well, I'm not going from an album perspective, but rather a band perspective....lets see...

1979 listening to KISS on 8-track in my living room! I was 9 years old.

1980 when I first heard IRON MAIDEN! I was 10 years old! JUDAS PRIEST when I was 11.

1983-1984 was a memorable time. That was when my friends and I discovered VENOM, SLAYER and METALLICA (In that order!). Those were the bands, among others, that really changed our outlook on music. My friends and I were only 13-14 years old at that time and had very cool parents who never gave us too much shit for the music we listened to (I'm 32 now and still proud to be a fuckin metalhead). Until then we had been listening to MAIDEN, PRIEST, VAN HALEN, BLACK SABBATH, LED ZEPPELIN, KISS, etc..

Other bands from that time period and up into the mid to late 80's that really made an impact on us were, in no particular order....OVERKILL, MERCYFUL FATE, EXODUS, FATES WARNING, CIRITH UNGOL, EXUMER, INFERNAL MAJESTY, SOD, LIZZY BORDEN, NASTY SAVAGE, CELTIC FROST, HELLHAMMER, ONSLAUGHT, TESTAMENT, FORBIDDEN, VIO-LENCE, . I could go on and on but those were the majors.
