True, but they are played much heavier by arch enemy...lets say a metal song made into a death metal cover...

Well, they didn't really butcher it; but they changed the line "The winds of Thor are blowing cold" to "and our hearts are growing cold," or something like that. I think they just thought that saying "winds of Thor" was too cheesy, so they changed it. Kind of pisses me off.

Exactly. I just see no point in changing it. I love Tool, but they definitely give off that vibe of being kind of egotistical and even taking themselves too seriously sometimes (not all the time, but occasionally). Every time I listen to that cover I just imagine Maynard saying "this line here-'winds of Thor are blowing cold'-it sounds like a nerd line. I'm not saying it." I'm sure that didn't happen, but it kind of ruins the mood of the song for me.

I'd say it's my favourite cover version done by Voivod. The also covered Pink Floyd's "The Nile Song", King Crimson's "21st Century Schizoid Man" and the theme of "Batman" (written by Neil Hefde).

I am well aware of that, as I am familiar with almost all of Voivod's discography. The Batman cover is hilarious though.
