I believe it is their intention to resume playing metal. Oystein said he's already two albums ahead of himself in terms of writing riffs.

That would be great, but not so likely since Vintersorg began to exert his prog-black influence on the band's sound. Regardless, when Borknagar plays metal, it's damn good metal.

I wouldn't call those last to shit... I actually quite enjoy them, as long as I am doing something else whilst listening. They can't be listened to on their own.

Even outside of Damnation, Opeth has a bunch of songs I love that I know if it wasn't them playing it I would probably hate it... but because they're playing it, it seems so awesome and a little bit metal.

The Showdown is just an identity crisis cleverly disguised as a band. One minute they're belting out some mildly amusing death metal, the next they're experimenting with some awful "biker rock", then the next thing I know they release an acoustic album. There's nothing wrong with a little diversity, but pick a goddamn genre!
