I already mentioned this on another thread, but how come metalcore fans seem to be mostly core and almost no metal? Do metal fans just not hear about Converge, Drowningman, From Autumn to August and Poison the Well? how about yous guys? Personally, it's some of my favorite stuff to listen to. Converge are obscene. I love Poison the Well, esp. stuff off Opposite of December, although they might be a bit too emo-influenced for some metal fans.

First off metalcore isnt a real genere, all it is is shitty hardcore bands claiming to be metal, and second all those bands you listed are pure fucking garbage in my opinion.

I agree about Poison The Well being just a little too emo-oriented for most metalheads' liking, but I'm really into bands like Converge, Nora, SkyCameFalling, From Autumn To Ashes, As Daylight Dies and the like... there's some great, technical music in that genre if you check it out.

I was born and raised on Morbid Angel, Megadeth, Slayer, etc. But, I still consider Metalcore "metal". I love Converge and Drowningman. I was wondering why more people haven't talked about these bands at UM. I'll admit my Metalcore collection isn't as good as I'd like it to be. Maybe somebody could describe some of the above mentioned bands. (I'm not that impressed with Poison the Well, but I don't actually own anything of theirs).

Obviously, you don't know what you're talking about. Most of these bands come from the punk/hc scene, so their hardly "claiming" to be metal." Their just hardcore bands that incorporate metal into their sounds. Don't know wy I'm even responded to such an inane post, but oh well.

What about gothencore? :err: I've got a load of gothencore promos recently, and most of them are pretty decent :)

What's gothencore? What are some of the bands?

npearce, From Autumn to Ashes might be a good one for you to check out. They're part way between Drowningman and Poison the Well. Mostly heacy, but they break out the melodies from time to time--not as much as PTW though. I got a bunch of their stuff of winmx. If you want to give Poison the Well a fair chance, I would suggest dowloading "Nerdy" and giving it a couple listens.

Also, although they're actually categorized as mathcore, Dillinger Escape Plan should be illegal.

Don't tell me it's "gothenburg metal" mixed with hardcore, because if you do I will scream.

Scream away trOO one ;) From around Massatchusetts (I know its spelt wrong, I can't be arse to find out how it should be spelled) a hell of a load of bands are mixing melodic death with hardcore, notably All That Remains and Beyong The Embrace

http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/t30380/s.html is one review, I haven't typed upbeyong the embrace :)

Well..."metalcore" is pretty much just metal bands playing hardcore shows most of the time. Really it's more of a social divide than anything else...kids who are into metal and hardcore, and these days most of them really only listen to metal because most of these very metal influenced bands just call themselves hardcore bands. It's a bit of a convoluted thing...although a lot of people I know in "metalcore" bands are just metalheads and hardcore kids getting together and starting bands. I used to play in a band that was pretty much just brutal death metal with lots of chugga chugga type breakdowns, lots of double harmony riffs and Death-esque parts with a singer who had one of those low growls that sounde like he was possesed by satan. That band was pretty much a mix of metal heads and punks.

These days, musical styles are so crossed over and meshed, the only real difference between a lot of bands is how they dress, what kinds of haircuts they have, and what label they slap on themselves. Look at crust and grind bands...some of them are straight out gutter punks, but you couldn't pick them out from long haired brutal metal/grind band like Benumb any day of the week.
