Just completed MGS4 man that Game is EPIC anyone else digging this game? story is pretty good this time around.

They managed to tie all the other games together nicly. Its a strange game in a sence its like playing a movie the level of cut scenes is more than all the previous games and they are long but i enjoyed them and they realy got the best out of the ps3 with the graphics realy great.

I'm playing it at the moment just completed eastern europe. It's fucking awsome - I love it. I'm also digging the cutscenes, but the game time should've been at least equal. It's like playing 10 min and watching half an hour.

Yea i hated it when i first got it cos i just wanted to play but as it progressess you realy get into the story and its cool and there is still plenty of gameplay action your in for some serious revelations in the story as you progress.

My only gripe was that it was a bit to easy to finish on normal mode kinda wished i did it on hard mode but still the best game iv played so far on ps3 realy got in to the story near the end of the game cant wait to start it again in hard mode there was lots of areas i did not explore going to go through it again with a fine comb to see what i missed.

Oh yea and the music score in MGS4 rivals any movie score iv heard its superb.

I apologize for being a little late on this, but SPOILER WARNING!!!!

As a long time MGS obsessor, I've been waiting for this game for 6 years (since the end of 2, cuz while 3 and PO were good, they hardly provided much resolution to 2's story), and I played the living hell out of it this past weekend, though am currently stuck at the fisticuffs battle with Liquid on top of Outer Haven. Honestly, my feelings on it are mixed so far; I haven't beaten it, so I can't totally make up my mind, but the things I loved are the unbelievable graphics, the REALLY fucking streamlined gameplay, the huge amount of exhaustively researched, realistic, customizable weapons, & the efforts to tie it all together. Also, the Beauty and Beast unit (especially Laughing Octopus and Screaming Mantis) were awesome boss fights and foxy as all hell.

However, even I, with all my love for the series, found some of the cinematics to go on a bit, though a big reason for that is probably that I started to get fishy on the plot after Naomi left and with the details of JD and GW etc. etc., so I found it hard to get too sad when Naomi died, for example, because it still seemed like she had betrayed them, but I don't really know how, and the S.O.P. system and how it relates to the nanomachines still kinda eludes me (did Naomi kill herself because she knew she was gonna destroy the SOP system, and thus deactivate the nanomachines which would kill her anyway?). I'll probably pick up the details on that after my multiple playthroughs, so that's not too much of an issue.

One thing that REALLY bugged me, though, was the handling of MGS3's characters - namely, that we're supposed to believe they all turned into a bunch of manipulative, twisted, power-hungry sadists? I mean, movie-loving, nerdy-but-cute Para-medic turning out to be Dr. Clark (mentioned in MGS 1), the one who tortured and experimented on Gray Fox before he killed her? And Major Zero being this architect of world conspiracies for murder, when in MGS3 he was this jovial British chap who loved James Bond movies, tea & crumpets, and describes Vodka as "sulfuric acid" - his codec calls were practically comic relief at times, so I really don't buy the fact that Kojima turned him into this evil mastermind of the Patriots. Same with Ocelot, and how he according to EVA he was a founding member of the Patriots, but in MGS2 constantly referred to them as a separate entity (I know they were an AI, but still) - honestly, I've always felt prequels were a bad idea, because it's seemingly impossible to realistically incorporate them into the story, and this reinforces that feeling.

Sorry if I got too in depth, but it is without a doubt my favorite VG series, and has been since 2001, so I was waiting a long time for this.

Na zero is not some evil mastermind its just he got it wrong you will find this out later.
Actualy no one is this is evil they all had good intentions just different points of view even liquid and all the other so called bad guys were just trying to free the world from the patriots system to give it a new birth from their point of view and patriots originaly ment for the system to help the world be a better place by controling everything its just the ai system kind of evolved to such a stage where it took over and decided the war economy was needed any ways dont want to get to much into it just its my opinion that there is no Dr. evil hell bent on world domination its a little bit more intelligent than that :Saint:

Im about halfway through it, and diggin it. And though i love CGI shit some of the cinamatic scenes are way to long. O yeah and i did jack on the Beauty and Beast unit fights LOL

Way to hide the IMMENSE amount of spoilers you just threw out.

Luckily I already beat this game, otherwise I'd be pretty pissed.

Hide your comments in the future, man.

Haha, sorry about that dude, it didn't even occur to me when I wrote it in my eagerness to discuss the stuff in there, but I'll put in a hearty disclaimer (and here as well - MASSIVE SPOILERS FOLLOW!!)

So I just beat it, and I'm still not sure what to make of it. Actofvengeance, come on man, give me some credit here - evil may not have been the best word, but of course I know MGS villians have always been multi-faceted and (to varying degrees) deserving of sympathy (though I still hate the character of Volgin, and thought he was way too comic-booky, but wasn't really the main antagonist of the overall story of MGS3); Solidus especially in MGS2 I definitely sympathized with. Now that I've just watched the longest death sequence in the history of any visual medium that I know of, I'm thoroughly perplexed; so Liquid died at Shadow Moses in MGS1 and that was it, and Ocelot was just playing the part of Liquid (albeit very convincingly thanks to psychotherapy/hypnosis/etc.) to trick the Patriots for...some reason, I dunno, I'll figure out the overall goals of all the characters on multiple playthroughs.

But I still stand by my statement that the character of Major Zero as depicted in MGS3 (which I have played at least 5 times through and heard almost every hidden codec conversation) was totally not the kind of person to have any kind of aspirations of world rule, and if you played Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, the implication is that Zero was behind the Boss' defection, Volgin blowing up Sokolov's Research Lab to necessitate Snake taking her down, etc. - in other words, he was supposed to be this cunning mastermind behind all these huge political machinations; I don't buy it AT ALL.

That's a minor quip though, compared to the main issue: I can't stress enough how well I know and love the stories of the older games, so to have this one come in and rewrite all the rules and motivations (even for the Shadow Moses incident, in a game that came out 10 years ago) is a tough thing to swallow; MGS4 was an incredible work of fiction, but I'm not sure yet if it works for me as a loyal fan of the first 4 (including PO, which actually had a really good story).

Wish I had a PS3 instead of a 360 so I could play this game.

That's why I asked for a PS3 for XMAS and bought a 360 myself :heh: But at least the 360 has the aforementioned Mass Effect (which is FANTASTIC), the lovably macho Gears of War, and the benefit of a controller FAR FAR better suited to any shooter game (I like the PS3 controller better than the 360 controller overall because it's smaller and feels less big and cumbersome, but the triggers on the 360 cont. make it instantly superior to the PS3's marshmallow L2/R2 buttons when they're the focus of the gameplay)

GoW is MASSIVELY overrrrrated

never played it and I don't think I would enjoy it anyway. I think Halo is overrated too. Its single player blows but multiplayer is decent.

I generally thing shooters on consoles are shit anyway unless they have auto aim or something similar to GTA IV.

Bioshock was another good game for the 360...but I generally stick to sports games on consoles and shooters on the computer.

I dont like autoaim... it allows newbs to get in on there too easily.

I still like my Call of Duty 4. Im usually about 38-10 in every round on that game.

MGS4's storyline is just ridiculous. Even Final Fantasy games have a simpler plot.. and that's saying something. BUT, the gameplay was pretty cool, and there's some cool elements to the game as a whole.

yea if you didnt play all the other titles you would be super lost with the story i can see a lot of first time mgs people not digging all the long cut scenes and the complicated storyline. But being able to sneak up on a soldier and cut his throat or do multiple other amusing things to him should make up for it:)
