Microphone Shootout, come on in....

Music is Life...
Alright I wanted to record my new greenbacks so I figured i'd kill two birds with one stone here.

The amp was my DSL 50 loaded w/ a fresh set of new and biased JJ e34L's and ecc83's , cab was a greenback loaded marshall 1936 2x12, guitar was my fender showmaster w/ a duncan distortion bridge and 59 neck plugged strait into the amp. These were just the microphones plugged strait into my 002 preamps.... Enjoy!!

The mic's were all 3 inch's off the cab...

Shure sm57
Shure Beta 57
Audix i5
Sennheiser 421

The only eq used was a high pass @ 80 hz and I used some limiting to even out the levels...

Enjoy ! and don't mind my sloppy noodling!

sm57 edge of dc for me...
closely followed by the 421 in the same position
thanks for your effort

your welcome ! I thought this would be cool for everyone, it's kinda nice to listen back after doing this and hear this from a listeners perspective... I think my favorites were the 57 on axis, mixed with the 421 on the seam of the dustcap or speaker edge one, .. combine those two... and theres my tone! :headbang: :kickass:

Cool samples. Thanks a lot man!
These are the final sound samples that conviced me finally to buy a Sennheiser 421. :headbang:

Honestly the i5 seems like the best one. It has a much fuller sound than the 57 for sure. Smoother too.

hahah yea that's us ... but Kelly didn't actually sleep with anyone or sign anyones tits or any of the other stupid crap that they edited to fit into there cookie cutter reality Tv show formula....im my opinion the show was fixed from the get go ... great exposure for sure though !

anywho, who cares we're still around and doing well!! :headbang:

I just love this place...
For my personal taste, sm57 edge of dustcap, and 421 right behind.
I was impressed by the i5, and a bit disappointed by the beta57...
Anyway, cool thread, thanks for the test!

Definitely edge of dust cap! I reckon, in order:

i5 - brutal awesome :D
SM57 - nice, but just lacking a little richness compared to the audix
421 - big chug, but kinda wooden sounding
beta57 - meh
