Mixing session done - band refuses to pay

don't worry about it man.. this issue has been fucked in every hole at this point.. effectively you are basically getting "sloppy 50th's" by going at it this late... c'mon, it's 9 pages in. nothing more will be of much use, unless you enjoy having everyone else who's already commented pointing out to you that anything you mention was already discussed.

PLEASE NOTE: We will only work with bands that have more than 5000 myspace friends, accumulated over a period of no more than two years. Please attach proof of friend count (signed and stamped) with your interest request.

I can't tell if this is a joke or not.

James: Naah, I'm still here. I just think most had been said by now and most people seem to have understood what it was all about.

smy1: I actually always make sure to have a kind of "buffer" for these moments, but I was too much on the plus side for 2009 so I wanted to spend it on equipment rather than losing it all in taxes. I was hoping that at least ONE of the pending payment would clear out before newyears but it didn't. It was a risk of course, but with a tax rate of 70% here in Sweden, I felt compelled to spend whatever I had. But my dad's been kind enough to lend me some money so I could take care of the most urgent stuff.

Dexter: Nope, I never mentioned any price to the band. And the price list has always been on the site.

Then it is the 90% of the band's fault and 10 % yours for not signing a contract. I was on the band's side, but I didn't know your rates where on the site. Who purchases anything without looking at the price first?

yeah... and that was covered... by me specifically in answer to someone else, in the thread. already. but go ahead. let's go for 18 pages.

lol I'm with James, just let it die already, next person to post in here is a FAG!

Maybe this will help!

The band IMO is simply RIGHT not to want to pay. Because they asked, he didn't tell.

How can you assume that a band even knows it takes 2 days to mix/master one song?

Wow no way. Dead wrong. Sure it would've been easier had he given them an estimate, BUT... they didn't get an estimate and told him to go ahead with it. If it were me I'd assume they must not be worried about the money. Maybe I shouldn't assume this, but given the fact that they said to get on with it why else would I think differently? It is their fault for not asking these questions. How long will this take? xxxxxxX? I don't commit to buying anything without knowing the price. They shouldn't have either.

EDIT: Gareth thanks for the save.
I read the first few pages and posted. Fuck reading all of it. :p

Goodfellas: +1

What I wonder is why, if this band was so concerned with the payment discussion after the project was completed, weren't they as concerned to begin with? They clearly had a strict, limiting budget. If I were going to have Sneap, himself, record an album for me, I would most definitely be double-checking the cost because God knows I can't afford shit. They're lack of communication and maturity proves the argument to be against them.

But all in all...

It's almost that time for this thread to die. :zombie:

Okay, I only read 2 pages, but I'm stating my opinion anyway (maybe someone alse already wrote what I'm going to write..);

Considering you work at a highly professional level with prices way over demo-bands normal budgets, I actually think you should have checked up on them good before starting. Sure they told you to proceed, but judging from their bad english you should've checked up on them real good. Their myspace looks like shit/sounds like shit/like.. 44k visits, no friends, they existed for 5-6(!!) years and achived this. I would NEVER start mixing a client like that before telling them prices. You REALLY can't expect a band to know how the mixing process works (for example knowing that it takes 3 days to mix a crappy sounding demo that's 9 minutes long)

Now, having that said, don't get me wrong. They really need to pay, you can't accept anything else! They are handling this very unprofessionally, childlike and wrong. But I'm just telling you this for the future. I read what James said, but you can't always relay on thinking the bands know what they're getting them self in to at this level (if the band is a demo-band that sounds like shit!).
