I don't know shit about boxing but my brother is a fanatic and he's talked about that exact fight before I think. I gotta check it out I guess. :D

that era was fun. for starters you had prince naseem hamed, who really brought the mainstream's attention to the lower weights for the first time with his brash megalomaniacal personality, ridiculous WWE-level ring entrances and insanely unorthodox way of fighting (with huge power backing it up). meanwhile in mexico there's the emergence of two hard as fuck deadpan mexican dudes, the complete opposite of hamed's flashiness and also very different from each other; barrera an intelligent guy from the city with a wealthy background and academic qualifications and a stocky bear-like quality to him, morales this gangly rangy kid from the streets of tijuana. they absolutely hated each other and ended up fighting three times, two of them classics. marquez was emerging around that time as well, much more of a cerebral counter-puncher with brilliant technique which meant he struggled to get fights for a bit, but barrera ended up fighting him a couple of times in very good close fights. hamed was viewed as the golden goose for all these guys as he was the one making all the money, and avoided fighting any of them mayweather-style for a while before eventually coming up against barrera, getting schooled and retiring lol. and then pacquiao suddenly burst onto the scene out of nowhere like this force of nature and basically ended a couple of these guys' careers (and obviously ended up having his own big rivalry with marquez). so many great fights between these guys, and a few other absolute classics like barrera vs. mckinney, morales vs. zaragoza, hamed vs. kelley etc. if i was gonna recommend one fight to watch from the above it'd probably be the first barrera morales fight though.

also: if you're into strategic stuff the iconic strategic fight that always comes to mind for me is hearns leonard I, both such intelligent fighters with so many major mid-fight adjustments. they change styles so much looking for advantages that it's like a bunch of different fights in one.

so there’s a ufc tonight because dana’s a maniac, and it’s already a total clusterfuck. jacare flew down despite a family member already testing positive, weighed in and was surrounded by people on numerous occasions, fistbumped people etc, and now tested positive himself. you think this means the ufc is cancelled? hell no, it’s still on!

Lol

Two of his cornernmen also tested positive.

I think a lot of people have it ... and the more people get tested the more those numbers are going to go up. Just goes to show that the virus isnt as deadly as claimed. Im pretty sure a bunch of us UM'ers had it at one point too.

Holy fuck Ngannou destroyed him. Not sure anyone but Rozenstruik himself thought he had a chance but goddamn the predator is a scary human being.

A heavyweight with no head movement gets chin checked? Say it ain't so.

he was still handily winning the fight. 2 knock downs even. Not sure he let his guard down or Povetkin just cane at him perfectly but that’s a fuckton of trash talk out the window for that guy.

not that he was ever gonna beat Joshua, Fury... or even Wilder

When asked about his opponent’s strengths, Pulev said: “I’d say he has a very powerful punch undeniably … [and] his tan is better than mine.” The mandatory challenger has since apologised, saying his comments were “taken out of context”.

probably my most anticipated boxing fight of the year tomorrow in lomachenko vs. lopez, i'll post a vid of the fight if i find one after

https://boxingvideo.org/vasiliy-lomachenko-vs-teofimo-lopez-full-fight-replay/ - spoiler free, i'd recommend watching the second vid not the first

loma took the whole 'downloading information' strat a litttttttle too far in this one huh? weird performance. i thought it was closer than the judges said (7-5/8-4 kinda range, the 11-1 lederman card is a bit much) but they got the winner right for sure. the sky's the limit for this kid now, a lot of people considered lomachenko utterly unbeatable.
