hehe ok, i will definitely try and check them out soon....but yeah i have a very sensitive cheese-o-meter, almost any kinda sing-songy major-key excursion makes me cringe.

Nothing sing-songy about them at all, just the occassional foray into "Zelda-like" video game keyboards. :tickled:

maybe just stay away then. or don't. they do have stuff like that, a lot in fact (great drinking music) but i'm goin to upload two songs here that aren't much like that:

As Long as Winds Will Blow... (Ok Nefna Tysvar Ty)
Laeknishendr (...En Medh Their Riki Fara...)

mark, "vanadis" or "when gjallarhorn will sound..." or "donar's oak" aren't sing-songy? you what?

Like I said, I don't find them sing-songy as much as I just a simple case of "happy" sounding keyboard melodies, like flutes & shit. I think given the theme/imagery of the band, it works really well. And honestly, Moonsorrow incorporates a ton of the same elements.

When I think sing-songy, I think of like, Gamma Ray or something.

i dunno i do like stuff like ensiferum and finntroll, i guess what i mean is i like my cheesy drinking metal cheesy and my epic metal epic, and when they start to overlap i start backing away slowly

thx for the uploads, i'll listen in a sec

Yeah, when I think sing-along I think of stuff like Ensiferum, Finntroll and early Thyrfing. Suden Uni and Voimasta certainly fit that bill.

Falkenbach takes on more serious approach IMO. The debut is basically black metal with some epic keys thrown in, especially on song #2 (I think) with that long, but awesome key outro.

My impression of listening to a Falkenbach album:

Song one: Hey this is awesome!
Song two: YEAAHHHHHH METAL
Song three: wait... third song? what happened to the second song? That was just a different song?
song four: uhm... this song was exactly the same as the last one...
song five: ehhh... *stop CD*

even if I get that far.

They have a worst album?

yeah, the latest one is seriously kinda average. of course, by "average" I mean not as ass-kickery as the first two, especially the classic debut.

I kinda see where J is coming from, with regards to the singalong aspect of early Moonsorrow. Falkenbach, on the other hand, have that glorious epic feeling to them

Then Moonsorrow became epic and Verisakeet is one of the best albums of the year.

Moonsorrow's latest > Falkenbach's latest, but overall? I declare it a tie.

@Mark - "flutes and shit".

En their medk riki fara - classic buy or die
magni blandinn - well above average to great
OK nefna... - average to a bit above average

new one, Heralding the Fireblade, haven't heard it.

Ahh, ok.

I agree on "magni blandinn..." and I remember liking OK Nefna quite a bit more than just average. I haven't heard the "medk riki" album yet (soon).

Goddamn crack addict. :loco:

OK Nefna is above average compared to other Falkenbach. Still better than most other shit out there.
