Not surprised that Immortal won, surprised Nile got so few votes. Personally, I think Nile blows almost as hard as DsO, so skin off my sexy ass. As for Emperor, I thought they had the "importance to the genre" voting block sewn up.

And there goes the argument of "people only vote for classic bands" right out the door.

death metal, other than a few contenders, just doesnt interest me anymore. it lacks the depth and creativity black metal can bring. however, this necrophobic album is getting better and better. you would most likely find it a nice listen.

This is true and I find myself listening to black metal a lot more than any other genre recently as I tend to put bands with a lot of emotion and atmosphere on a higher level than bands that just :kickass: , but there are still a lot of death metal acts out there that pack in so much groove and badassery, that I love them.

It's sort of the whole art vs. entertainment debate. Black metal affects me more deeply, death metal makes me thrash about wildly and have a lot of fun. Both fill me with emotion and both serve their purpose.

I'll check that Necrophobic disc out too.

Current Death Metal is fucking ghey. Its mostly about who can be the most brutal or outdo each other technically, or what have you. The emotion and spirit behind the music has been lost from the early 90's in the death metal. I'm not into sterile music.

Of course there is always exceptions to the rule.
