do you mosh at shows?? i get the feeling most of you are "stand in the back with your arms folded" types, and i used to be the same way but god damn if you're going to a metal show you fuckin owe it to yourself to show some fuckin spirit! i understand not everyone is as down with getting battered and bruised (in the name of METAL) as i am but at least bang your head like you fucking mean it!! portland specifically is really bad for this, i dunno how many of you have ever been to metal shows here but god damn portland metalheads are apparently too fuckin cool to mosh, which is retarded and all these sorry-lookin shitstains standing around like they're at a church social should be kicked the fuck out with extreme prejudice. if you don't wanna participate, stay home and sit in the dark watching live clips on youtube, you fucking posers!!

Moshing is fucking stupid. How can you not control yourself when the metal comes on?
Hmm that's an oxymoron.
Anyway, to quote myself on a similar topic in GMD some months ago

Well i am not a teenager anymore so not much thrilled in the idea of the moshpit either (except some few exceptions). But when i was 16 and watching Slayer playing "Evil Has No Boundaries", Motorhead opening a show with "Bomber" or Death delivering "Leprosy" near the end of their show, i could not think myself anywhere else than the moshpit. The energy, tension and feeling of the moshpit are compared only with few things.
It is true that most moshpit usuals are retarded, especially those who wear spikes on their arms and just move like maniacs all around and everywhere..i mean this is seriously dangerous.

I don't mind an old school style circle pit every now and then, but most of the time I'm more of a headbanger (if I dig the music). I despise the retarded monkey dancing/karate kid type mosh pits, of course.

I used to love it back in the day. There was nothing better than the pit at a D.R.I show. Due to an injury I sustained in the pit at a Death show, I stopped going in more than a decade ago. I still have issues with my neck but I do miss it from time to time. I, too, can't stand the modern day karate/free-style action. Circle pits are the way to go. :kickass:

I am much more of a Front-Row-Headbanging type of guy. I may wander into or near the pit form time to time, but most of the time I stay up front. To many crazy redneck psycho motherfuckers at the shows I have been too around here to want to go in the pit. A guy started fucking strangling me once. He was also bloody and wearing half a Pantera shirt.

I was in a Slayer pit once and some idiot ran up to me and intentionally punched me in the chest and took off, so I ran after him and threw him about 20 feet - needless to say, I didn't see him again.

Old fasioned pits can be a lot of fun, but there are always drunken or just general idiots that ruin it for everyone.

.

I'm a front row warrior. If I can't get in the front, I would probably hang out back, but I haven't yet had this problem. I don't go to many concerts anyway though. Not a fan of moshing personally, though I can appreciate the aesthetic to a degree.

i was of course talking about old-school circle pit action. i suppose i tend to go to more punk/thrash type shows where there are presumably fewer pit-monster meatheads than your average slayer show, so it's a somewhat less risky endeavoUr...and i'm all for standing in the front and headbanging, that's where i tend to be most of the time anyway. even if you're standing by yourself in the back it's possible to put some energy out there, just bang your head and fuckin throw up the horns, it's just stupid when 3/4 of the crowd is standing around like they wandered in from the poetry reading next door. generally speaking the more pumped up the crowd is, the more fun the show. you may not mosh at a maiden show, but what the hell kinda fun would it be if everyone around you was just sitting there looking uncomfortable?

As long as they aren't "Hardcore" dancing (aka doing cartwheels, kicking, punching, etc.) then moshing is cool.

I agree that I really don't understand people who just stand there arms crossed doing nothing. That would take away a big part of the enjoyment of going to shows for me. However, I tend to stick with just headbanging furiously and air guitaring, which is great fun. I'll join in circle pits too, but mostly I stay away from pits.

Pits became much more dangerous once it became popular. I'll never forget when I started seeing jocks I knew from school showing up at shows. They all thought Metallica was cool (Justice era) but had no idea who Dark Angel or Overkill were. It was a place for them to go in and get physical without having to play their rival high school football team. They would hear about shows through a familiar (a metal kid who desperately wanted to be popular) and would show up and pummell people. That was the beginning of the downfall...at least in Minneapolis.

yup me too. I love being up front...except when some fucker is stage diving or crowd surfing and you get kicked in the head. but there's nothin like waking up the next morning with a migraine and/or the worst neck pains ever. I try and take some tylenol before I go to bed after a long night of headbanging
