there probably have been threads like this one before, but i wasnt here before so just gimme the most depressing songs and/or bands u can think of... plz heh

Katatonia (all)
Radiohead - Exit Music (For a Film)

ill let everyone else give better answers

People who implement ridiculously large penguin pictures in their posts obviously don't feel any sympathy for people with sucky Internet connections :)

5 most depressing songs in my life:

1. My Dying Bride: "Black God"
2. Katatonia: "I Break"
3. Paradise Lost: "Shattered"
4. Lacrimas Profundere: "Black Swans"
5. Anathema: "They Die"

There are shitloads more of course, but nobody realizes that the truth always hides within the bowels of the duck.

there was an album called "Solar Lovers" by the dutch band
"Celestial Season" , that used to set me in doomy states of mind.
Nice violin parts, not so sad a la My Dying Bride...
check it out.

The band has gone in stoner rock these days,
but the 2 first CDs were good doom ,
not original but good.

Also, some songs by Alice in Chains from the Dirt Album...
"Down in a hole" ranks very highly emotional for me.
From the news, their singer Layne Staley passed away
last friday. R.I.P.

C.

My Dying Bride - For My Fallen Angel
Skepticism - The March And The Stream
Nine Inch Nails - Hurt
Tori Amos - Raining Blood (great cover!)

I guess I forgot some songs, though...

king crimson - epitaph
The wall on which the prophets wrote
Is cracking at the seams.
Upon the instruments of death
The sunlight brightly gleams.
When every man is torn apart
With nightmares and with dreams,
Will no one lay the laurel wreath
As silence drowns the screams.

Between the iron gates of fate,
The seeds of time were sown,
And watered by the deeds of those
Who know and who are known;
Knowledge is a deadly friend
When no one sets the rules.
The fate of all mankind I see
Is in the hands of fools.

Confusion will be my epitaph.
As I crawl a cracked and broken path
If we make it we can all sit back
and laugh.
But I fear tomorrow I'll be crying,
Yes I fear tomorrow I'll be crying.

Nice to see the SOLAR LOVERS album being mentioned, it is indeed one of the best doom metal albums out there. Or so I think. They had this one fantastic, depressing yet beautiful track on a split single, "ABOVE AZURE OCEANS". Be sure to d/l it and discover the early music from this once glorious band.
