Music Gear Thread

i just stained the guitar

but i am not happy with the results because of reasons that are a bit too complicated for me to bother explaining right now

the important thing is i think i can fix it

pics of me fucking up the staining:

i'll have to sand down the veneer entirely on the front and back and then re-stain those parts

^^The mottled stain actually looks really cool to me. Sgot character.

Every so often I remember this exists and am once again blown away by the awesome. Why must they be so hard to find/fucking expensive?!

list all the music gear you currently feel like you need

* vgs eruption guitar w/evertune bridge
* hardwire supernatural reverb pedal
* golden age project pre-73 mic preamp
* probably a new sound card at some point (more inputs)

dont know if im one of "you people" but yeah sometimes

my gear atm is pretty much a bunch of the cheapest things i can get away with using

so

list all the music gear you currently feel like you need
Nordy vJ4 (green bass)
Bordwell fretless (crazy maple/mahogany thing)
Two Bag End 12" cabs
Mesa Boogie 400
The big pedalboard pictured above.

Everything else is fun/optional. I have one more cab, two more tube amps, 4 more basses, and about 20 extra pedals. I'll rotate that stuff in and gig with it as well, but if shit got real and I had to sell things for food, I'd keep the above until my car got repossessed.

EDIT: I just realized you meant what ADDITIONAL gear you need. At this point I can't justify anything else because I have way more than necessary. I've been so satisfied with my core gear the last 2 or 3 years that current/future gear purchases are all for shits and giggles.

So you people with all this kickass gear are actually making music, right?
Nope. I'm never in 3 bands at once with 4 different ongoing solo side projects. Not once.

haha
Im in one band.... im singing.

Been looking for a band to play guitar in for a while. No one wants to play actual metal around here.
I'd settle for playing power, heavy, death, black. but no one likes that stuff.

as far as gear I NEED, I have all and more than I need.
But when you throw out the word WANT, oh boy, I want all kinds of stuff.

This is the best part about gear collecting. See that shit? It's a 3-band preamp and stock pickup from a '94 StingRay. Completely useless to me, but only worth maybe $50 to someone else. But, just in case I sell this bass someday, I better have the original shit to go along with it unless I want to lose my butt on the resale.

The other chunk is the stock pickup and pickguard to my old Fender P-bass. I'll never sell this bass because of the sentimental value, it was my 18th bday gift from me ma (awwww), my first "real" bass. The extra parts are, again, worth maybe $50. But I keep this because in 30 years, who the hell knows how much a Vintage 1997 Fender American Standard Precision Bass, All Original including Pickguard and Pickup! will be worth on eGay?

This is your cue to post some songs
I've always been embarrassed to put my music on RC, which is why I only rarely, rarely do it. Funny, hey? I'll talk about the most personal demons in the world here, but when it comes to MUSIC I ACTIVELY PROMOTE ELSEWHERE, I generally don't whore it out here. I rarely make metal, that could be why. Or I fear criticism. I dunno.

But okay. Here's some.

The Wold and The Whale - noise project I started several years ago and has been dormant for a spell, but I did make about 50 soundscapes at one point. The good ones are here:
http://www.boogeresque.com/wold.html

Avolition - My old band, I was more proud of and had more fun with these dudes than everything else in my musical so-called career. It's not really RC appropriate, so I never advertised this, but we played a shitload of shows and probably had 90 songs. Could've been, would've been, wasn't.
http://www.myspace.com/avolitionband
It Was The Blurst of Times is funny, and everything I ever wanted to accomplish as a bassist was done with the song Untrue. I still honestly yearn for this band, I loved these dudes and everything we accomplished. We did a few demos, got some good feedback, were in a local magazine thingy at one point, and I still listen to this stuff just for fun.

Ummm my last band didn't have any recordings with the full 5-piece group except some YouTube shit. I fucking hate the guitarist so I don't want to promote any of his work (which, admittedly, was awesome). We were called The Release and that was a lot of fun, until it turned into the stupidest shit I've ever dealt with concerning other musicians. Oh wait we did this 20 minute thing when we were a trio that I quite liked, and JayK loved it which gave me a boner:

Here is my current solo shit. I don't have a name for it yet, it's either going to go under my old stoner/solo name Farewell, Shootka! or just ??? like I have the folder named on my 'puter.

I was in this synth/pop band for awhile in LA:
https://www.facebook.com/Auradrone
Wow, over 11,000 likes on Facebutt, maybe I should have kept doing that one.

Ummm... oh yeah, I did an improv band with up to 20 different floating members at one point, we played a lot of shows, and I learned SO MUCH from working with this collective called Quadrance. Hundreds upon hundreds of hours of recordings exist of this stuff, here are a few examples:
http://boogeresque.com/Quad_Ecliptix.mp3
http://boogeresque.com/Quadrance_Incum.mp3
http://boogeresque.com/QuadTGvTM.mp3
One show was on YouTube and I played for 20 minutes straight using nothing but an oscillating delay pedal. That's the kind of band that was. Cool.

Right now I'm laying low. After The Release imploded I've just been casually jamming and working on that solo thing above. Getting ready to start gigging again soon, but the drummer I'm working with is in several other bands and I am honestly taking a break right now.

I put shit on my Soundcloud periodically. Try to just keep a small handful of things I consider good and worth sharing.

And there you have it.

FUCK YES!!!!! :kickass: :kickass: :kickass: :kickass:

Gonna drink a few beers later and have me a good ol' time to this! (I assume it's beer music)

Oh I forgot to mention that Them Crooked Vultures ripped off one of our songs in Avolition. Well, not completely, but there are definitely some similarities:

http://www.boogeresque.com/Avolition_Druthers.mp3

That was recorded in 2008. Now listen to No One Loves Me, And Neither Do I which came out later. :loco:

FUN FACT: We actually gave one of our demos to an associate of Dave Grohl, SO IT IS POSSIBLE.

Any music I've ever created is generally enhanced with proper substance abuse. Beer and weed mostly.

In that band I did our flyers, the only time I've ever actually gone into the promotion bit. Hooray for MS Paint:

And here is our last jam, we had a Goodbye Recoding Session about a week before our guitarist split town. He lives up norf now, doing various studio and carpentry things.

Seriously. I loved that band and always will. I don't expect anyone here to dig it, but if any of ye do, thanks. 5 years later I'm finally sharing. :loco:

That last track there, Summer Never Known, is extremely fucking cool and I have no idea why you thought nobody here at RC would be into it. I'm pretty sure at least 4 or 5 others would. I will let you know about the rest when I get a chance to listen.

DUDE, why didn't anything happen with Avolition? I'm loving this shit right now!

Also dug the noise stuff. Can't wait to get to the 20 minuter.

You've been holding out on us!

Thanks dudes. I always figured Avolition was a little too alt/rock for RC. :Spin:

Our little legion of fans were convinced we would do something Big and/or Important. We were together for a few years, had some "whoa, really?!" moments in LA, worked our butts off, etc. But, nay. Instead we had 3 years of highly prolific fun that 50 people seemed to dig. No regrets or complaints, we loved every second of it!

I did my attempt to sell out with that Auradrone thing. In a year, I made..............$25! But, I got to play one of the best shows ever. It was at some gothic club with a huge crowd and they had an S&M room upstairs. And again, I learned a lot. Mostly about how fucking vapid the LA music scene is, but hey, that's something.

Completely serious question: Where can I buy an Avolition disk? I love this type of stuff and your shit is stellar!
Also what the flying fuck is wrong with Myspace? Livin in Fear finishes and it just autoplays Lady Gaga

We never sold anything, just gave away demos. I can put together a CD comp if you want, or send you a demo if I still have any!

Send me your address and I'll slap something together. Oh yeah and thanks! :kickass:
