Agreed on "My Arms", not overly keen on "Dirge for November", but the rest (though I perhaps wouldn't have picked them myself) I can understand.

i dont need you to understand them. theyre all top notch, no frills, tier-1 songwriting choices from the Opeth repertoire. end of story.

It's not in the list ! So, Opeth, metal, some rock, Instrumental, jazz, and a few songs from nearly all genres but rap and pop.
By the way, I really love Dirge for November me too, at first I didn't, but after some time I really started to like this song.

i like dirge, alot of people do... the track that i find most people dont like is my favourite: By the pain i see in others

thats because btpisio is one of opeth's worst tracks

when the electrics crash in on dirge, its musical bliss....first the beautiful wall of sound...then the layers of melody...i love that part...so easy to hum along to as loud as possible

on still life...one thing that bugs me is in white cluster, when there's that acoustic break and you can BARELY hear it unless you turn it up and then it just CRASHES in with the same riff in distortion...which is actually a ripoff riff from a Sonic 2 level, where you come in off the plane...and land on the big plane....seroiusly..go play that part

fwiw mayh is my fav album too...very easy to listen to all the way through.

atm: black metal, death metal and traditional folk music

I like jazz and other genres, but don't get round to listening to them much these days

Aside from Opeth, I really dont listen to any death metal bands. But i'll delve a little...

First person to come to mind is Dan Swano, when he was with EOS, that was a great time in my life! His more recent (Nightingale) material is great too.

After this, comes the Intrumental Artists: Joe Satriani, Vinnie Moore, Tony Macalpine....

This is probably my favorite genre. Joe Satriani was my gateway to Metal many years ago. This would make a nice thread..."What was your gateway into metal"...at any rate, Joe has always been my #1 Guitar God. Some people cant get totaly into it though, I guess it's an aquired sound.

One more artist thats made a big influence in my life was King Diamond. Abigail was my First. This was a whole new experience for me. Through the years the King has delevered some of the Best Musical Experiences I have ever heard.

I can always come back to Opeth though, to me the material never gets old, I have listened to them over and over (probably in the 1000's) though I consider their different albums to be sesonal, they are totally enjoyable all year long.

I listen to a very thin cut selection from many genres, but to pick favourite ones..? I don't think I could, as 95% of any genre is terrible imo.

That percentage is getting slimmer everyday. I may have been a bit over the top with that statement.

I'm finding/learning of, great music everyday. I was in a rut for a while though.
