Musicians of this forum

Hi!
I'm working these days with a demo for my one-mans project, Glittertind. Since it is a one-mans project I really should get some feedback from someone. Therefore I thought I'd might share one of the demo songs with you. :-D

Please tell me what you like and what I should do better... The song is called "Heathen Soil" and can be downloaded here: http://www.glittertind.net/mp3/mightythor/Glittertind - Heathen soil(mp3).mp3

Cheers!

I play guitar, bass, drums, and can kind of play bamboo flute. Lately I've been praticing my voice, so I can record a demo. My music (what I have written thus far) is a good mixture of folk, black metal, and prog. So if you like bands like Isengard, Nagelfar(Ger), Borknagar, Vintersorg, Otyg, Arcturus, Emperor, Opeth, Naglfar(Swe), Finntroll, Empyrium, Dissection and Burzum be prepared.

I've been using the name "Astral Infernal" for a while, but I'm trying to think of something a little better. Of course right now I'm focusing on perfecting my voice and writing music more than the name.

I probably won't have anything done until next year or 2005 because of lack of time day to day because of school and work, but when I do have it done I assure you it will be excellent.

I play guitar in a band called Eleria, and guitar, bass, vocals, synths(and the ways its going drums!) in a project called When Moons Descend.

There are mp3 samples on both websites, but the sample on the When Moons Descend site is without vocals as I've only just recently(as in this week) got the proper hardware to record decent vocals.

I play keyboards, el.guitar, tin whistle, recorder, 5- and 10-stringed kantele, mouth harp, over-tuned flute and a bit of hurdy-gurdy, jouhikko and bagpipes.. also different folk percussions.. I also do clean and growling vocals.. Mostly I play Nordic folk music, but also pagan and black metal in many projects..

Digging up a very old thread because I didn't want to spam this forum with a thread about my own band.

So let's continue this thread with talking about you being a musician and your own band/projects. :)

I am curious what you think about my new project called Stormsterk. We play kind of folk rock in our native tongue. When you like bands like Otyg, Folque, or Storm you probably will like this.

We put 3 songs online. The writing/recording procedure is going really quick and we think to finish our album 'Het Wild en Bijster Land' in the beginning of 2010.

But fuck it, I will close this window and start a new thread!

Do it :) but before you stop reading this thread I wanna say that I'm a musician too, hehe!
I'm a growler & I also play guitar, bass, keyboard & drums (a bit, hehe) but singing and playing guitar is what I like more :) My band is Solens Krona! :p & my husband (ex-Godgory) plays with me :)

Do you have music online? :)
A female growler? Nice. It's something you see more these times. It's nice. I played in a metalband before and we also had a female growler. She was really good and had a deeper growl then most man! :D

I won't stop reading this thread Lupskalla. ;) Topic is on! :)
I play mainly acoustic guitar. Maybe I should pick up my electric guitar again and start riffing.
I also sing, play bass, bouzouki, flute and some little folk intruments. I also want to play drums and my plan is to do the drums on the next Faelwa by myself.

i've nearly quit everything, when i've understood i would never be a musician in my life (for work i mean)
i played cello for 2 years (that's when my dreams were broken, i really loved that)
before i played bass for 6 years...and piano for...more or less 12 years, i don't remember exactly. i've learned to read notes before to read letters  i was 5 when i started.. i stopped it for some years and then started to play it again at the conservatory :)

@ lefay: you studied at the conservatory? have you quit before graduating then or something?

i play piano too, have been in the music school for 7 years and graduated with "the red diploma" (all A's / 10's / 5's). They told me i have to go to the conservatory too, but i chose math... I could play classic music very well but to me being a musician takes more than that... I looked at a friend of mine who never went to any music school, he could just sit there and dream away at the piano playing amazing music coming from his heart. It was fascinating, - that's what the real talent sounds like, i thought to myself and never pursued musical career because i realized the only thing i was good at, is playing somebody else's music... I also discovered that my creativity lies in the visual field instead of the audio, so i ended up doing just that :)

i haven't played piano for many years now (because i don't have it here in NL) and i miss it very much! i even have been thinking of buying a keyboard lately :)

If i were in a band, i would love to sing though! I cannot growl, but i have discovered recently that my voice has become so strong and clean, i don't know when and how it happened  i don't have any illusions about it though (very often what you think sounds decent to you, sounds like shit to everybody else  ), but i just enjoy singing more than anything else :p

yes, i left after 2 years of study, without graduating (cello is 10 years at the conservatory). it's awful i know, but it was too time consuming for me, and i absolutely needed to work, so i had no other chance.
you know sometimes things in life change. my parents divorced so my economical situation had a quick bad change. it's wonderful to follow our dreams but sometimes is not possible.
i entered the conservatory late, but there are some instruments like cello or contrabass where you can enter later than usual, being them big instruments which a child cannot play easily (for example an adult plays a 4/4 cello, which is the normal size, while youger people play a 2/4 or 3/4 cello, which is littler, and when you grow up and you change size it is a little bit problematic). so there were younger people than me, and they had a privileged lesson schedule, because they went to school, while i had lessons in horrible hours, like for example, one in the morning (9.00 am) one in the afternoon (2.00 pm) and one in the evening (18.00 pm) and i had to stay all the day in the conservatory, being not able to go back home with the train and back again to the conservatory. so i had time only for this. 4/5 days a week.
i was quite good, i studied two years in one (maybe have played bass before had helped) and i started to play with people who has studied more than me, and prepared pieces for the concert which took place at the end of each year, it was nice, i loved that, very stimulating....but things had gone this way....and my life is what i have now. i'm not complaining. it's just different from what it could be.

i played piano form 5 to 15, taking private lessons. i was good too, but as you say i was good in playing other people's pieces
then again 2 years when i went to the conservatory because piano is a complementary instrument to cello, you have to study both if you want to graduate.
