My dying bride. which albums to get first?

their first album "as the flower withers" kicks major ass, "the angel and the dark river" is a great one too, in spite of the kinda more melodic style, they play on this album. "like gods of the sun" is also awesome, just like "the dreadful hours"

"The Dreadfull hours" , is probably a good overview of My Dying Bride, then delve deeper into the back catalogue. Also get "The ANgel and the Dark River" at the same time, then realise what you've been missing and get everything

Haha at least once a week there's a thread popping up where someone asks what MDB albums to get first :) You might want to use the search function, dude ;)
Anyway, if you're not into them yet, get the newer stuff; after that, get Turn Loose The Swans, that's their "classic" and the most important album. It depends on your taste if it's gonna become your personal fav, though...

have to say ''The Dreadful Hours''. you have to get this one first, its like a perfect mix of them, then get the other albums, like 'Angel and the dark river' which concentrate on one aspect of the band if you like, dreadful hours has a good mix, so its best to start with that.

Here´s an Idea! Get them all, they are aboloutely fantastic!

Already having "As The Flower Withers" on tape for years (from around the time it came out), I actually really discovered them last year with "Like Gods Of The Sun" followed by "The Light At The End Of The World".

Subsequently I also bought "Turn Loose The Swans", "The Angel & The Dark River", the debut (on CD) and, when it came out, "The Dreadful Hours". "Dreadful" took a few spins to grow on me, but it's an excellent album, especially the first 2 tracks. Still "Like Gods..." and especially "The Light At..." are still my favourites as off now. Maybe the other ones'll grow on me too...

Ah, My Dying Bride... my favorite band for many years until the position was usurped by Opeth. Here's how I rank their albums:

Turn Loose the Swans
The Light at the End of the World
The Dreadful Hours
The Angel and the Dark River
34.788...% Complete
Trinity
As the Flower Withers
Like Gods of the Sun

TLtS is a classic of doom metal. Their two newest ones are the most similar to that album, but they're much heavier and more intricate. TAatDR is more ethereal; it's the lightest of all their albums. 34.788...% is a little on the experimental side; most MDB fans don't much care for it but it has some great songs. Trinity, a compilation of the three EPs they've released, is the most death metal of all of their albums. AtFW pretty deathy and a little on the raw side. LGotS is similar to the two newest albums, but it's drab and uninspired.

Where can i download some songs?? I keep hearing about this band and i'm very interested..

The Dreadful Hours is a fabulous place to begin. I have that album in mp3, and I'll happily share, my AIM is IanDork107.

My opinion is that you should start with Like Gods of the Sun. Great cross section of songs and slightly accessible. Once you get a feeling for what MDB are about, move onto Light at The End of the World or Turn Loose the Swans.

If you're looking to try some songs first, For You, Crown of Sympathy, Your River, ChristLiar and The Cry of Mankind are stand outs.
