My late christmas gift to you guize: Full song ready to be mixed

I have used these files to compare different settings for the 5150 / 6505. If you are interested in this comparison take a look at http://www.metalrecording.com

(Sorry, I'm too lazy to link every single file of the 11 audio tracks here again... If someone likes to do it, feel free :) )

Nice ! Thanks for sharing ! Good to hear the effect of moving the mic on a killer reamped guitar track.

EDIT : killer job with the backing track remix also
EDIT 2 : bass seems a bit low in the mix tho'

Hi everyone. I´m from Spain and this my first post.

This is my version. For guitars I used 6505 of Revalver and drums Metal Foundry. Snare Steven Slate.

What´s your opinion?.

Cheers from Spain and sorry for my shitty english.

Sounds weird : guitars sound very distant/phasey, and drums seem only to have the direct mics with a very compressed sound with no ambience and 3D at all.
Sounds like you used presets like crazy.

No man, I did not use any preset. I´m so noob on this.

On Revalver I used the Ir cab + mixir2 with some mixed irs, cause I thought It will work fine....sounded for me with more cabinet..but I was wrong. I will try again the all mix and will post here.

Thanks.

Ok, thanks for your help.

I started all again from the beginning. The mistakes on drums were compression and outs of Superior Drummer.

For guitars I´ve used this time Tsex50. Chain:

Gate < Creamtube < Tsex50 < mixIR < filter 80-12000

Panned 100% both sides and sent all to a bus with Eq and compressor.

Master with a bit of Eq. C4 and L2.

Bass ampegXV with impulse Filter, Eq and compressor.

What´s your opinion now?. Maybe snare is too low of volume?

Sorry again for my english hope you understand me.

Still sounds weird and not very good to be honest.

If i were you i would do simpler things in terms of processing, cuz' the more complex your chain is, the more chances you have to fuck something up.

Some pointers :

-guitars sound quite horrible, like over-distorted and fizzy. You might wanna check your levels, be more conservative with your TSEX50 settings and use a "standard" impulse and go from there (and ditch the gate and creamtube for now). I don't know that creamtube thing but it could be the cause for this horrible tone. You should be able to get a great tone already just using the DI straight into the TSEX50 and a good impulse and HP/LP. Only after that, you should start adding stuff in the signal chain (like a Tube Screamer in front of the TSEX50 among others).
-snare sounds weird, it has that weird thing going on the right side. Then again, you have to follow a simpler/more standard approach and go from there before venturing into more complex stuff

You should A/B your mix with other (great) mixes of that song posted here.
We've all been there, trying to replicate other people's signal chain and settings, but actually you should start simple and build from there and try to understand what you're doing and why instead.

EDIT : not sure what you did with the guitars but they sound very mono... How did you pan them ?

All right I was working on it last night and now I updated the link. Here is my new try. I´ve tried to do all you told me was wrong to tweak it...thanks for it again.

The guitars sounded mono cause I routed them wrong to the group....oppps...:(

Ok just listening to it and please tell if is it correct.
