My latest record! Elm Street - Barbed Wire Metal (for you old-school guys!)

Duende is a lot gentler than Waves. You can boost more and get away with it, as it doesn't have quite so much of that harsh sound going on. I've never used the real strips in order to compare, but the Duende sounds more like I'd imagine hardware to be. The compressor suits me better as well. The one on the Waves tends to choke and stifle things and sound a bit thin. So, will probably stick with it.

yeah well done Ermz easily one of the best productions I've heard you do, it's got all the right elements in the right places, it's got a great sense of live/punchiness that sets the tune off, this tune would have been a disaster in the wrong hands - will definitely catch an Elm street gig

Mute everything in Superior other than the room tracks, and then print them down.

Glad it's shined off so well on you, Dean. The guys do share some stylistic similarities to stuff I recall you doing, so it may be up your alley! They're very into that traditional metal thing. This track is a bit misleading, as it's more thrashy, and the rest of the album is more twin-harmony type stuff.

I hear it's kicked off well. They're already getting bulk orders from multiple online stores for the record. Really happy for the guys, as they've invested so much in it.

Missed this one, probably my favorite production you've posted. the "thwap" to the top end of the kick rules for this style of music, reminds me of what Andy did on one of the CoF albums, almost gets a 'slower' feel going but it works really well for that kind of double-kick work. Aside from the "bogan-Alexi Laiho" thing going on, the vocals sound awesome - is that a fair amount of Distressor I'm hearing? Snare is too loud for my tastes and eats up the guitars a bit but the ambience on it rules.

Cool, glad this one is a little more down your alley.

Drums were a little risky on this one. I started the mix on one of the slower songs and thought it a good idea to use parallel compression to fatten everything out, but as we got into songs more like this single with the constant double-bass, things got very interesting when trying to keep it all together.

Vox have the usual stuff going on, preceded by a pretty high quality recording chain, which did indeed include a Distressor. One of the first times I had to reduce brightness on the raw vocal, rather than add air. Crazy, but cool.

@Eddy: Thanks for clarifying! I recall you talking up the Custom Audio, so I figured you used that one. Either way, was all good! SLO is a sick lead amp.

I'm kinda disappointed that this song doesn't showcase any of the acoustic bits. I think we got a killer acoustic guitar sound on two of the songs. Outboard mania!

If any of you end up getting the CD, check 'Metal is the Way' for them!

Also, about the vocal style... to me it was always a 'Megadeth' meets 'Motorhead' vibe. Think about it!

I just have to say that I absolutely love this, production as well as the music. Perfect example of what I call "modern old-school" sound!

EDIT: A big WOW @ those drums in the start of "Merciless", this is so killer.
