Thanks for the comments guys. I agree the synths do get a bit loud from time to time, and that's the patches really jumping in dynamics. The artist wanted them loud, but I probably should have controlled the dynamics a bit more. Gotta take the heat on that one! Oh well, makes it sound more 'raw' and awesome right 
And thanks Plec, I'd like to think its due to my proprietary method of brickwalling the living fuck out of anything resembling a dynamic while mixing, and listening to an array of clipping coming at me from the speakers as I work. I figure if it can survive this, it can survive a normal mastering procedure
