No matter how I set the guitar volume and master volume on my recorder (which is probably never perfect but I'm not letting the red LED light come on), at high volumes the finished songs clip and distort.

Is there a way to fix this on the final product? I just don't know how to set my BR-600, even after two years.

Any advice is appreciated.

Are you using all 8 tracks?

What type of metal are you playing? Because the signal output of 8 tracks of Maiden style metal as opposed to 8 tracks of Behemoth style metal are going to be different.

How loud are you recording each track? I don't know how much you know about music recording, and I don't want to sound condescending, but if you record each track, just below peaking, when you play everything back, you're going to exceed the capability of the unit. Let's say for arguments sake that you record each track at 10dB (just cuz 10 makes for easy math). And your unit can play back at 50dB. But you've recorded 8 tracks..that's going to add up, and you're going to distort no matter what.

Try recording each track at a lower volume.

Let me know if this helps.

Its probably your gain level dude, try readusting them then re-recording, are you using DI or micing an amp??

lower the volume of your guitars when you record. it's better to have an instrument too low, as long as the sound quality is good, because it's much easier to add volume to a signal than extract gain from it.
