Wow, we may have different ideas about silly stuff like message boards and CD packaging, but it seems like our views on music are surprisingly similar.

I pretty much don't like any "thrash", but I own and quite like 'Rust in Peace', 'Alice in Wonderland', and 'Never, Neverland', because they're some sort of melodic post-thrash or something. And of course 'Burning Bridges' is awesome.

Problem is, although I know exactly what you're talking about, I can't really come up with any other recommendations. I guess I'd agree that Sanctuary is probably in this vein too (although I'd go with 'Into the Mirror Black' instead).

I did think of Gamma Ray even before I saw you mention them, but thought of their "dirtiest" and most aggressive album, 'Insanity & Genius', which would be much closer to this style than 'Land of the Free'. Might still be a little too power-metally though, as might early Blind Guardian.

Oh, what about the mighty Rage? Their golden-era stuff all fits these criteria pretty well, with perhaps 'Secrets in a Weird World' fitting the best.

Just randomly I came across this band Seventh Omen when scrolling through iTunes, and they might fit too. I really like their album 'Majestic', but that might be from a lot of nostalgia. Here's a song from it, since it's probably one you haven't heard:

Goodbye

You might find it lacking in the "lead solos and fills all over the place", which would probably be the downfall of everything I listed. It's pretty darn hard to compete with 'Rust in Peace' and 'Burning Bridges' in that category while still hanging onto the "heaps of melody" requirement.

Which is where I'm guessing you'll find most of Doomcifer's recos lacking, in the melody department. But let me know if he hits the spot with something in there, because I'd like to know too!

Vio-Lence = 2nd best thrash band EVER. It's a shame what happened to Demmel. Machine Head LAWL.

goddamn right ... why does everyone dismiss this band simply because of the vocals?

and get those 2 last Exo discs as well :kickass:

I didn't read the thread, so I don't really know, but I don't really care either because it's all good.

Why yes, yes I am. And if you couldn't tell by the looks of my list, I'm kind of out of it right now. :loco: Fucking exhausted.

I did think of Sanctuary too, and one of the reasons I prefer Sanctuary over Nevermore is because Warrell Dane actually sings real melodies in his vocal lines.

Another band I thought of was EIDOLON. They probably fit this criteria quite well, the only problem is, they aren't very good. I can take 2 - 3 songs before wanting to turn it off, so they would have been the perfect EP band. The fact that the Drover brothers are in Megadeth now actually makes a lot of sense.

I've never heard 'Insanity', but I do suspect it'll end up being pretty unnecessary, having exhausted this realm now for the most part.

Oh, what about the mighty Rage? Their golden-era stuff all fits these criteria pretty well, with perhaps 'Secrets in a Weird World' fitting the best.

I'd like to explore Rage further. I have "Trapped!" but I find it to be a really exhausting listen. I can't find anything that hooks me into a particular song or chorus line.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

Yeah, well obviously the Gothenburg scene tapped into it the style, but the death vocals tip the scales. There seems to be a void here, otherwise I'd have shelves stacked with Annihilators and Megadeths.

I'm going through them right now.

First song: "Terrorist Attack" by Ulysses Siren.

:kickass:

Awesome riffery. Neil, you should check this one out. It sounds like 'Deth on steroids from their Peace Sells era. Lots of riff and tempo changes. It doesn't meet the criteria exactly but it's a good first shot.

I'll make a note of these guys, based on this one song, Ulysses Siren rule. :kickass:

Oh yeah, I'm already sold on HOLY TERROR from the links in the other thread. I want to buy both Mind Wars and Terror & Submission. I'm trying to hunt down the 2CD release.

Doomcifer, Ulysses Siren for the win. So this is the right direction at least.

In contrast, Tyrant's Reign is too straight forward thrashing. I'm not saying it's bad, I'm just saying it doesn't fit the direction.

I'm going through all the downloads. I gotta eat right now...back in a while

Did you listen to The Amulet? That is far from straight-ahead.

Yeah, thats what Im thinking. No straight-ahead thrash. Youve obviously heard Heathen, right????

Ill wait for your comments on others before I go back to the drawing board.
