Need more stuff like Rust in Peace, Alice in Hell, or Never Neverland

Doomcifer, some of this stuff is great. I do really like Ulysses Siren (especially "Terrorist Attack") and Heathen (the two songs from Breaking the Silence I prefer over Victims of Deception).

Thing is, I wouldn't say they're perfectly on the money for what I'm after. :erk: Although you've introduced me to two great bands now, I'm just looking for something a little different in terms of this thread request...

The remaining stuff you posted is too thrashy in regards to what I'm after. That "bam bam bam bam" drumming and shouted vocals sounds too US influenced (some of the Heathen for example sounds like Anthrax), but I think I'm looking for something a little more "European" sounding.

Can you think of any bands that fit somewhere between what you've already posted but with more classic (NWOBHM-style) melody?

Perhaps another example of the direction I'm heading towards is Mercyful Fate. Think of speed metal bands doing "Melissa" or "Don't Break the Oath"...is there such a thing?

Something a bit more fluid...riff frenzies that weave in and out of each other, guitar leads dueling....think of that Michael Denner / Hank Shermann combo and the style they mastered.

Give it a shot. :kickass:

But seriously, are you sure you have "Trapped!", by Rage? The German band? Because that's the exact opposite of what I say about that album! The first seven tracks are possibly the seven most hooky tracks to lead off any album in the history of albums! Every one of them could be the leadoff track. The only thing that keeps it from being the best Rage album is that it tails off a bit after that. Of course, I do think that Rage is the best band in the history of all bands, so I don't quite expect you to love that album as much as me, but it's gotta be better than you think it is right now!

:tickled:

OK man, you've sold me, I'm gonna go rip it to my iPOD and give it several good listens over the next few days. I don't remember it being anything like you described but I'm eager to retry.

Have you heard that Death Angel? If not, you interested in a track?

Yes and no. :) I've got a bunch of their stuff already. Not really what I'm after. Think Jeff Waters and the sounds he created with the first two Annihilator albums. Note that not even he himself could ever recreate that level of genius ever again. I think there are more guitar leads in those 2 albums than there are vocals.

Also, think of Deth's "Peace Sells" - a ton of leads and riffs, where some of the songs kept the vocals to a minimum and just let the guitars do the talking. Mercyful Fate were doing this too.

If Arch Enemy's Stigmata or Burning Bridges had clean vocals, we'd be hitting the jackpot.

This is a little off topic, but are you a fan of Metal Church's Blessing in Disguise?

I have some MC laying about. Like Rage, I'll give it another shot. Thanks.

Okay, Ali, let's see here...let's move away from thrash then...

Attacker - Tortured Existence from Soul Taker
Attacker - Jack from Soul Taker
The Hermit from Battle At Helms Deep

Yeah I think you're hitting closer to the target. Of course, I have Battle at Helms Deep but I'll check out the Soul Taker samples right now. "The Hermit" sample you provided is a great example.

Now before anyone thinks, "d'uh, well he's just after US power metal", I'm not. I think there was a slight difference with Attacker simply because of the obvious European influence. Another album in the same ballpark (perhaps) would be Helstar's Nosferatu. The only problem I have with Helstar is that I cannot stand James Rivera's vocals.

But yeah, on the right track... :headbang:

please tell me you are very familiar with Fates Warning - The Spectre Within and Jag Panzer - Ample Destruction or else Id just have to leave this thread entirely.

Of course!

EDIT: Yeah, not a fan of Rivera. I don't really like vocalists who sing the same vocal lines over and over. This is quite prevalent in US metal for some reason, where the vocals sound thrash-based, as opposed to NWOBHM based.

When it comes to vocal melody lines, think more 'Angel Witch' or 'Mercyful Fate'.
