Need- Orvam: A song for Home (aka "a F*cking Amazing Disc")

Firstly, there is definitely a Fates Warning influence on vocals by any good means. Ray Adler and Warrel Dane seem to have influenced Jon the most, but in my opinion he uses these influences to create his own style. Also, there are some bits of Gildenlow (at the end of "Symmetrape") or Zachary Stevens (first line of "Orvam").

I bought the CD along with a T-shirt but I really hope that it will be released on vinyl.

If there are people interested I could start to translate a detailed interview with Jon which is only in Greek. It's quite a work, but if there are people interested I guess I could start working on in (here it is: http://www.rocking.gr/interviews/Need-interview-Jon-V/18730/)

Also I could give you a hint on where the word "Orvam" comes from in case you want to...

What are the chances of this ending the year in my top 10?

99.9%.

*Jasonic Mode On*

I will take the credit for bringing them to Glenn's attention.

This and Vivalma are two of the best things I've heard this year! So much quality it makes my heart hurt! Hnnnnnnnnnnnnngggg!!!!

Vivalma.... I had no idea they existed, let alone the fact they're Brazilian. God dammit, this is totally awesome. Very old-PoS like imo. Great to hear there are still bands going for that sound!

First off, thank you Glenn for pointing me in the right direction with these guys! I can't stop playing this! It's on par with Circus Maximus "Nine" in terms of repeated plays at my house. A definite top 5 disc for 2013.

Second, it only took 10 days to get the 3 cds to my mailbox from Greece! Faster than some stateside websites. Very impressed by that!

Last but certainly not least; I hear not one iota of Ray Alder vocal melodies on this, so y'all can KMA! Lol

Just to clarify for those picky bastards at the end of the year. "Orvam" is a 2014 release (January 10th officially).

And second, Ray called me after he heard the disc and said, "Dude..wtf?"

In a very strange way this is a nice feeling reading all these good things about Need and "Orvam" as I've always believed in this band and claimed that this is the best metal band over here, (excluding the extreme genres that are not exactly my cup of tea).

And talking about FW influences:

The first track, Lifeknot is TOTALLY a mash up of the first two tunes off Disconnected and Ray's first Engine album. And that makes it off the charts badass to me. Thanks again for Glenn and Milt for bringing this to my attention. What a monster album. Guess I'll now have to buy the physical copy after loving these bandcamp tracks. How is the packaging on the CD? That will influence my purchase.

It's jewel case (the two previous albums are digi packs) and the artwork is really nice.

The only thing is that they've picked only a small part of the lyrics for each song. To make it up you can find all the lyrics on the official youtube link of each song.

Imho it's money worth spending. I really like the artwork.

@Harvester: That "Dude...wtf" that Ray said was for good, right?

I totally get the same cathartic vibe as I did when I first heard Redemptions Fullness of Time. They are different musically of course, but I just know this is going to be an album I will still be in awe of a decade from now. This is something special. Guess I gotta purchase the CD now, mp3 is not good enough anymore.

The more I listen to this project, the more obvious it becomes that this is one of those amazing, special, and significant products, demonstrating the "state of the art" and evolution of rock. I would have no issue with including Orvam when discussing the best rock albums of all time, ever. I think it's that good.

Later today, I'm going to order ten more copies of this and when I get them, I'm going to give them to the first ten people I can think of in my environment that I personally know are cool and perceptive enough to appreciate what this is. And when I run out of copies to turn people on to, I just might order ten more.

hey everybody!this is Jon, the singer from Need...I am really overwhelmed by the response and the feedback from everyone in this thread!thank you all so much!
