New Amp Sim: LE456

Well, with impulses you'll put strain on the CPU anyway, because they are tough for the CPU to compute. But I'm sure it shouldn't be constant 100 % though! Maybe closer to 50-60 % with that CPU and 6 impulses.

It only happened to me once during that testing session but what I did was to copy the amp sim from one track to another, which then caused the overload.

Now that I think of it, that happens almost every time I do that in Reaper, regardless of plugins used. It seems to be impulse-related mostly, though. But sometimes it also happens when I use one amp emulation and then add another and remove the other one. There sometimes is a strange spike.

It's a bug in Reaper, I'd say, especially because:

Yeah, it hasn't been a problem if I have only one instance of the amp running. 2+ causes the bug 100% of the time.

In my clip, I had four instances of it loaded at the same time in Cubase without problems.

I havent experienced any problems with multiple instances/copy plugin between tracks. Reaper 3.12 on vista64.. 6 tracks with no problems... This goes for both versions of the plug Ive tested..

For those who have experciend problems, does it happen systematically each and every time ? Could you tell me, step by step, what you do when you have those CPU overload ? I have tried yesterday to copy instances, load mulit-instances in reaper and I had no issues. I badly want to help you with this bug but there is not much I can do if I can't reproduce the bug.

Thanks

As I mentioned above, i have the same problem with FL Studio 9. I create a new project, throw in any number of instances (>2) of LE456 and have no CPU overload, all works just fine. Then I save the project, close FL Studio, re-opening it again, loading project...boom. 99% CPU load, no sound, very slow DAW response. This happening every time i open this project.

BTW, just found some kind of solution for FL: i turn ON "Smart disable" feature on each LE456 instance, saving project, reopening it again.. and it works just fine, no overload or glitches. :err:

I don't know what is causing this, but something strange just happened...

I decided to try and see if there's any problems on my computer with this plug-in and Reaper. Here's what I did:
1. Open Reaper (3.12)
2. Insert new track
3. Dropped a .wav file from explorer onto that new track
4. Insert Poulin Le456, set channel to B
5. Insert keFir (mono), load impulse (GuitarHack FinalV2!), set mix to 100%
6. Press play (repeat on)
7. Start duplicating the track (right click -> "Duplicate selected tracks"), always duplicating the last inserted track. Here I lowered track and master volumes so it wouldn't clip the master. First four tracks worked normally, but fifth was completely silent as was sixth. Tracks 7 and 8 worked normally but number 9 was again silent. I got up to 16 tracks before my computer began stalling. Out of those 16 tracks, 13 worked normally and those three went silent (and they were silent right from the start, when I duplicated them from the previous track). I removed track no 16, so the project would not stall the computer.
8. Stopped playing and saved the project as test2.rpp.
9. Hit "New project", then loaded project test2.rpp and pressed play. Now tracks 4, 6, 8, 10, 14 were silent, others played just fine. Performance meter in Reaper shows pretty much the same readings for every track. Curiously, it shows the same readings even (minutes) after I stopped playing the project? Is this normal?
10. Hit "new project" and closed Reaper.
11. Started Reaper and opened project. Again, tracks 4, 6, 8, 10, 14 were silent.
12. Deleted Poulin Le456 from track number 4 and reinserted it. Now that track plays fine. Others are still silent.
13. Save project, hit new project, reopen the project and press play. Track 4 6 8 10 14 are silent again. Tried closing and restarting Reaper and reopening the project but the results were the same.

I tried that same procedure again, this time without keFir, using only amp sim on the track. Again, random tracks are completely silent. Now there's 15 tracks total and 6 of those tracks are silent.

Then I tried it yet again, this time I just inserted new track, dropped the .wav and inserted Le456 on the track no changes to any settings. 2 tracks out of 15 are silent.

And after that, I tried once more. Dropped the .wav, inserted Le456 and duplicated the track. 6 out of 15 are silent.

And THEN... I got fed up, realised my typing quota for this week is full and I need a cigarette. I don't know if any of this is of any use to anyone, but there it is.

BTW, I did not have any CPU overload after I deleted that 16th track and/or used just 15 tracks. And it was not always the same tracks that were silent, it seemed to be completely random, at least to my eyes.

Thanks a lot Eddy. That's the kind of info I was looking for. I'll work on it over the weekend and be back to you as soon as I find and fix the problem.

In Samplitude, I inserted 2 tracks of le456. The first track works, but second only works in A channel. B channel is muted.

Anyway great work. In my opinion it's the BEST ampsim.
Now, we need some new impulses. There's a long time since catharsis impulses were created...

For fun:

Engl Powerball E645 vs. Lepou LE456 :)

http://koti.mbnet.fi/juhau/englbath-eaten.mp3

Try and guess which one is the real one and which one is the simulation :P

Edit:
Oh yeah, and I set the Lepou version to the exact same settings as the real one, and then lowered the treble by 2 steps on the plugin, since it was far more trebley than the real thing - probably due to different preamp tubes used in the emulation modelling.

Ahem, there has been a free Fireball emulation for a loooong time :D It has been mentioned in this forum too umpteen times ;)

That´s totaly insane!!!!

where is this GuitarHack FinalV2!.wav, cause i didn´t find it anywhere on my guitarhack pack?

how about your pickups what was that?

thanks

It works fine on cubase 5 tried several instances and didn´t find any bug or cpu overload, saved and came back for new tests and kept all the parameters i used before.
Impulses loaded with kefir most of the time, but i also combined with you hibryt series and all the other sims I use like 8505, 7170, Wagner sharp, solo c, and some times with simulanalog tss´s and worked perfectly all the time.

thanks Mazo
