I'm a huge fan of Colors, I think it was the best album of 2007, but even I'm inclined to agree the production is not the best around.
Listen to White Walls at 12:09 and the soloing seems to just get buried under the drums somewhat. It's a solo goddamn it, it should be heard.
Hell, even as soon as the first track hits, I noticed something was wrong when I heard Tommy's vocals. Not only are they just too quiet, but it has this annoying "distant" sound, rather than being a bit more upfront.
I noticed zero clipping too which is fortunately a big plus in today's age of "slam until it fucking clips".
I know some people don't, but I don't mind the guitar tone, sounds full bodied to me, and it's percussive and all that jazz I like about Rectifier tones.
That said, I do think it is superior to Alaska because it does not have that annoying scratchy high end.
