New CD's that you have gotten recently

When I first heard Detest a few years ago, I was blown away by the track "Thundersteel." It's the best Manowar song by a band other than Manowar. The other songs I heard were very disappointing Metallica-type stuff. What's the ratio of epic metal to Bay Area thrash on the collection?

Helloween - Bang That Head That Doesn't Bang LP (Bootleg Live in Germany 1986) - Sound quality is great on this.

Nice, was this the one you got at the convention you were telling me about? You will have to spin this for me next time I am over.

Did you see the new HELLOWEEN video?
I like it... a lot! Sure, nothing new or groundbreaking.
Just solid!

Haha actually this is a different one. Yeah I'll show you next time. This new one seems to be a live radio broadcast because there are some short interviews in between songs. The sound is very impressive though and the performance is intense.

Yeah I was digging the new Helloween song Nabatea. It really reminded me of Rainbow at the beginning (Gates of Babylon). It got me to buy the $20 preorder that includes the shirt.

It kind of is all over the place. there is even some melodic rock stuff on it as well which is actually the best tracks.

Finally listened to it and couldn't disagree more. I'd say it blows Manilla Road's last couple of releases at least out of the water.

Well, I agree that the last two MR's aren't exactly the strongest releases in their catalog. I will give you that.

As far as Hellwell blowing it out of the water?

At least the last two MR's have some memorable vocal melodies.
Can't say that for Hellwell, aside from the first track.

Anyhow....who cares? New MR out in a month or two!

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree then. I would imagine you're more critical than I am about it, since you're the hardcore MR fan, whereas I've just gotten into them this last year. I am looking forward to the next MR album though.

Yeah, as a fan, I just found the release to be rather pointless.
That's all.
It was marketed as "Mark Shelton exploring his Deep Purple influences, etc, etc..."
All I hear is slower and longer Manilla Road material with some keys laid over periodically.

Don't know why he described it like that. I don't get a Purple vibe from it at all. I just think it's a pretty solid album.

A note on Hellwell. Have you read the interviews about this E.C. Hellwell guy? HIm being all reclusive and all and never doing anything musically, no internet, doesnt care much for the modern world. BUt yet Mark has been friends with him for a long time....Ummm does anyone else get the feeling that E.C Hellwell IS Mark the Shark Shelton???
