New CD's that you have gotten recently

the Air Raid disc is in my top 5 for best albums this year. Holy smokes this is great stuff.

I laugh at all the people bashing the Therion disc. This isnt new ground they are covering. I am excited to listen to it today.
 
HOLY SMOKES.....just listened to the new Therion.

One of my faves of the year. There isnt much different to the music so any fan of the band would not be turned off. I dont know what Nuclear Blast was thinking when not wanting to release this one.
 
Who is THERION with now?
I respect what they do, but just one band I have never been able to get into.
I have tried a couple times.

As for HELLWELL, it seemed like a completely pointless release.
It is basically all the Shelton fronted songs from the past couple MR releases with some synth over it.
No memorable vocal passages. Nothing sticks out afterwards.

You guys know I am big enough of a MR fanboy to lazily blow loads over it.

I don't hate it, I just find it to be completely pointless.

But hey, if doing it helped keep Mark's creative juices flowing to do another MR record so quickly, then I am all for it!
 
they are still on Nuclear Blast but the label didnt want this release. It is basically all french cover songs from the 60s / 70s or something. The band self released it. They basically reworked it to thier sound. If you didnt know the story behind it you would think it is just a new Therion album.

I've been reluctant to try it. I haven't loved anything they've done since Sirius B/Lemuria, and I LOVED those.
 
I never saw what was so great about Zuul either.
I know Bob will come here and defend them to the death because they are a "scene" band.
I have listened to most of their stuff on You Tube and have the one track on that Warriors of Metal comp.
Just another one of the zillion new bands that use lo fi production to sound "traditional"

If anyone has suggested tracks of their newer material to change my mind on them then please post them here.

They're a top 10 band for me; however, I can completely understand those who can't get into them. They're definitely an acquired taste. As Bob said though, for those who are already Therion fans, I don't understand the bitching. It just sounds like another Therion album and a very good Therion album at that.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. I love everything they've done for the most part. However, if the last two you didn't like too much, I would give this one a try as it's more in line I think with some of the older Therion stuff.
 
I just tried the first Zuul this year. Honestly, the album blew me away. Has it been done before? Of course, but I really dig the Dianno-era sounding Maiden vibe they have going.

they are not a "scene" band. I love how you get mad because you are not the one telling people how good they are. They play here locally a lot since they are all from parts of Illinios.

Come to a show once in a while and see them play and you will see what I mean.
 
I admitted I have never seen them live.

I would certainly check them out of they were at a show I wanted to see.

I ain't dogging them, but they are part of the "Oooh, they are on Planet Metal so I have to like them" crowd.

I dont think I have heard anyone say....they are on Planet MEtal, I have to like them. There are lots of bands on that label that are terrible.
 
Seriously...you guys are trying to sell me on this band.
Is that YouTube clip I posted about meant to be their best song?
Has some good foundation, but overall very repetitive and no hook.
That was my problem with most of their tunes I have heard.
