New Deftones

Its some sort of Marshall product, guaranteed. My guess is the JMP-1 preamp he's been using since Around the Fur.

Ditto. Stephen isn't one to change anything really. I think he's a Marshall guy thru and thru.

My guess would be JMP-1 preamp as well.

He used POD Pro's on White Pony, though...Maybe not the recording, but that touring cycle saw him using POD Pro's.

Nope, it was just in his rack. I read an article where he said everything from Around the Fur on was with the JMP-1, Marshall 9200 power amp, and the same 1960B cab with Classic Lead speakers that he used in Adrenaline.

man, i can't stop listening to the title track!! i'm going insane!! i haven't loved a band this much for years...

kinda bummed. just went to their website and apparently missed a live webcast tonight of a show of the new album front to back from Dallas... damn!!!!!

Got a promo copy of this CD today... The Deftones continue the trend of releasing albums that consist of half the songs I like, half the songs I don't like. I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet, but CLA mixed "Diamond Eyes", and it absolutely slays- the snare is one of the coolest yet I've heard from him. Nick Raskulinecz mixed the rest of it. Not all of the other mixes sound bad, but I literally laughed out loud quite hard when the second track started playing, just because the mix sounded so pathetic right after the CLA mix :)

Just bought the deluxe version on iTunes. Fucking epic disc.

If you listen to the start of 'You've Seen The Butcher' (my favourite track I'd say) I love how the guitar starts off crunchy... he then seems to be ramping in a volume pedal (or maybe just feeding in some extra takes slowly) so it gets more gainy throughout the introduction.

I love the noise in the background at that point too.

I was wondering if someone else mixed the rest of the songs! "Diamond Eyes" is so punchy and just as you said....slays!!! Was there a reason that he didn't mix the whole album and just that one song?

Found a live video of the whole new album as well over at ustream.

I absolutely love Around the Fur and White Pony and didn't like the following albums (which had 20% of really good stuff and the rest of average/boring stuff IMO)much, and i was not overwhelmed with the new album either. It has some really good parts (i LOVE the opening song, amazing chorus IMO, rocket skates is cool also) but it does not even compare to the awesomeness of Around the Fur and The White Pony IMO.

I think the production is killer, esp. drums. It also sounds more natural/organic than their previous records (esp. around the fur and the white pony). Abe Cunningham is god.

Also the funny thing is that the "you've seen the butcher" sounds a lot like some Fear Factory, like the moody dark epic slow songs they put at the end of their albums (like the "final exit" one on their new album).

For me it's just a good album, when ATF & TWP were pure masterpieces.

Btw i just found out they will be playing in Paris this monday, i'm gonna attend for sure.

If you guys read that article again, they're not on an anti PT kick. All they said was that they wrote the songs in a room as a band instead of in front of the computer part by part. Nothing wrong with that.

You're crazy. It all sounds great, and the drums on tracks 4 and 5 sound the best to me by a long shot.

The title track sound huge. Definitely dig the vibe CLA gave it. Am I right in assuming, he mixed the singles, then Nick Raskulinecz used that as a template?
