New Feared single - Mastered by Ermin

I think the problem that people are experiencing with the guitars is actually the bass. I'm hearing this on my ns10s and it seems like the bass clunkiness in some parts is actually interfering with the guitars instead of complementing them like in most of Olas videos... great song btw :)

Now listening more closely it makes some sense.

Maybe easing down a bit on the bass clunkiness (which is something i like in general) would help ?

New mix is great btw.

Sounds like a certain pickup, like the Alternative 8, or Distortion trembucker in the guitars. Has that middy, "wet" sound, I guess.

I never even got to hear the first mix, but I'm glad to hear that people are digging the second one.

The Fortin Natas was used for the reamps. I'm really happy with how it turned out. I think the guitars have tons of bite and articulation, and it suits Ola's playing really well. We went through tones to figure out what he liked best, and this was it.

I should also mention I didn't use a SM57 for these. I love that Ola has embraced sounding different. Is it wrong to say I'm tired of hearing a variation of the same guitar tone on every production? The same pickups, the same guitars, the same amp, the same cabinet, the same microphone... I mean its old news to me. My goal is to make the artist happy; it is to take their sound from inside their head, and make it audible on a recording medium.

Ola, it was pleasure working with you, as usual :)

Nice job on the master, Ermz.

New mix solid, I just wish the vocals were louder, they're way too quiet IMO. Apart from that, everything sounds PERFECT for your music.

Glad most folks are agreeing with the last revision. This one certainly had its hurdles, but I like to think we came out on top. Best of luck to Ola with exposure and sales!

FWIW, I put the bass and lead vocal tracks through quasi-'awesomification' procedures on this album. People ask from time to time what that entails, and this album (along, of course, with a lot of my regular mixes) is an indication as to what that results in.

:worship:

Yeah the 2nd song sounds a lot better overall! As pointed out, vocals are a tad low but thats about it :D
Guitars are smoother, bass is fatter and works better with the kick as far as I can tell, vocals sound more "even" (dunno if tracking is part of the reason for this?)
Great work guys!

That amp is boss, but the guitar tone sounds supremely average :bah:

Knowing how painfully meticulous Ermz is when it comes to sculpting his high gain guitars (and pretty much everything else, ;)), he probably had to beg to the gods to give him the power to de-fist it something chronic to get it even to the level of "meh" its currently at. Pity, as Ola's guitar playing is the main attraction here :(

Moving on, vocals sound quite good, drums are fairly raw but listenable and I'm diggin' the solo. Eagerly awaiting the rest of the album!

I have to chime in here and save some asses :D

Actually the DI files I recorded are the culprit in all of this. I used a ass of a interface that I had on remote this last summer and the DI came out noisy and sounding somewhat fucked up haha.
But both Greg and Ermin made it happen, I for one am happy about the outcome!
