New Joey sturgis product DrumForge

Can't treat this product good after reading that Joey's "don't buy EZD2" post. Yeah, they did a good job, but I can't support them by purchasing it, even if I needed more drum samples.
And in fact, some of the examples on their website sound quite .... machinegunnish.

Yeah I dont hear any revolutionary shit like he said! so it´s just seller bullshit. I think he is good on what he does, so I am not coming like a dick but I must say that I would for miles prefer buying ez drummer and andy sneap metal machine than his new product.

Anyway, it´s weird that all different snares sound so similar after processed and they sound also quite compressed. Me not like.

Yeah, I was really intrigued after I heard him say not to buy EZ Drummer 2 because he was releasing a new "revolutionary" product...

1. This isn't even in the same price range as EZDrummer 2. EZDrummer is $150, Drumforge's intro price is $250 and then $300 after that. I, and I'm sure many others, were thinking this was going to compete price-wise and be in the $100-150 range. I would have bought it for $100, but $250 is steep for a modern drum program that doesn't even use its own plugin format.

2. I'm not really sure what's "revolutionary" about this, the only thing different from most of the commercial plugins out there is there's different microphones for each drum and two different OH setups...? Maybe if they would've included more samples on each drum's page, I'd be able to get into it more.

3. The raw samples on the website sound terrible. I've owned, or currently own, several of the snares that are in this pack and I can get completely raw sounds out of them, with only one microphone on top, that are just as good, if not better than, the processed sounds in this library.

4. The clips don't show if there's multiple tunings for each drum or not. Some of those snares are completely unusable to me because of the super apparent ring. I realize a lot of guys here like that tone for the more death metal type stuff, but it'd be nice if they included muffled and unmuffled samples in this instance. My two favorite snares in my collection - a Ludwig Acrolite and Supraphonice are among my least favorites in this pack; which literally sound nothing like mine. A lot of the samples sound really choked.

5. I'm actually really excited about the cymbals in this pack, though. Paiste Dark Energy are some of my favorites and I really wish I would've sampled mine before I got rid of them... Would've liked to've seen more complete packs of cymbals (mostly in the Zildjian K range), but they all sound quite nice, regardless.

Keep in mind that this is $250 + the cost of Kontakt.

It's not officially licensed to work in Kontakt Player, either? Well... that's depressing.

I mean, I own the full version of Kontakt, but they just cut out most of their user base doing that. I guess it DOES come with Trigger and GOG files, but you don't get any of the stuff that makes this package more unique doing that :erk:

Some decent sounding snares and the Slingerland toms are ok, absolutely nothing "revolutionary" about it though, and without the full version of Kontakt this is just another sample pack. I can see why he went with Kontakt though as the Chango kids absolutely jizz over nki formatted drum samples for some reason

To say "don't buy EZ Drummer 2" because of this was REALLY daft though, EZD2 has actually brought something new to the table with it's workflow for WRITING drum parts quickly, this thing isn't really bringing anything new imo.

Yeah they're acting like they re-invented the wheel because they have two different room mic faders. The snares to me all sounded..... Weird somehow. most had the same annoying "splat" sound. Don't know how to describe it but it gets a gigantic 'meh' in the excitement category.

These things tend to take on a life of their own if the marketing is good enough. Joey has enough of a strong follower base that will jump on this without question - certainly if the immense Facebook response was to be believed. That makes it a good financial incentive for him to chase, regardless of how revolutionary or not the product is. Given how saturated the market already is with sample packs, it's going to be difficult to break through that fan barrier and sell this product (especially at the proposed price tag) to the rest of the audio industry.

Don't buy this.
Me and my team of me and I have been working 100's of minutes on a newer more revolutionarilizing sample library.
It's near completion and should be out between now and whenever I get around to starting it.
Basically what I'm saying is this is a game changer. It changes the game.
It's the equivalent to the game world as a game shark.
When you use a game shark it's like a whole different game. Like it's been changed. Game = Changed.
I can use metaphors all day to explain how great this sample pack will be.
Raw drums and HEAVILY, and I mean HEAVILY pre processed that I 100% guarantee will fit your mix no matter what.
You might think it doesn't fit the mix, but trust me. You're not hearing it right. It's not the samples, it's you. It does fit.
100% guarantee.
Stay tuned for more.

:OMG: :OMG: :OMG: Will buy! :OMG: :OMG: :OMG:

Last October dude. How did you miss it!?

Go grab the demo; cymbal swell tech, resonance simulation, more articulations, more layers, more stability, etc.. etc.. etc...

some nice snares and some nice toms in there, but for that price I'll pass.
Single pieces are far to expensive. Way better options regarding price, with same and higher quality.
Plus I'd also have to get Kontakt for the drum player feature

Sorry dude, I was being a dickhead. BFD3 release was like a party popper, quick and over before it started. I remember BFD2 had lots of hype and was the premium drum sampler for a long time.

BFD3 comes along, with some very genuine innovations as you listed, and it feels as though its release got less attention than this hamfisted Sturgis effort.

I'm aware you're with FXPansion and I hope that BFD3 is going well.
